Tokyo experienced a record-breaking high temperature for November on Tuesday, surpassing the previous record set a century ago, according to the Meteorological Agency. This exceptional warmth coincides with an unusually balmy autumn and follows an exceptionally hot summer, not only in Tokyo but across Japan. The unusual heat triggered an out-of-season peak bloom of sunflowers in Chiba Prefecture over the weekend, as reported by the Tokyo Shimbun. In Tokyo, ginkgo trees renowned for their vibrant fall foliage, such as those in Showa Memorial Park and the Meiji Jingu Gaien Park district, have yet to turn yellow. If you want to see the peak of autumn color, Nikko and Okunikko have already reached their peak autumnal hues.

The mercury hit 27.5 degrees Celsius in the Japanese capital on Tuesday, topping the November 1923 mark of 27.3 C.

Misen -in is the oldest Buddhist temple on the island Miyajima and is famous for its firewalking ritual, which dates back to the Heian period (794-1185). The burnt offering is fueled by wood on which prayers have been written. If you are visiting Miyajima during the firewalking ritual, be sure to participate in this extraordinary spiritual event.
