Chokyu-ji Temple, located in Yamazoe Village, Nara Prefecture, was built on the site of Kehara-ji Temple, which was associated with the construction of Todai-ji Temple.

Although the exact founding date of Chokyu-ji is unknown, it is believed to have been established after the decline of Kehara-ji. The temple was revived by the monk Chiryu Shonin, who created a pilgrimage site in 1882, enshrining numerous stone Buddhas while making use of the natural landscape.

Today, Chokyu-ji is known for its “88 Stone Buddha Pilgrimage” or “New Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage,” attracting many stone Buddha enthusiasts 🗿🌿🍃

We visited Akame 48 Falls for the first time in a while and were amazed by the abundant water flowing down after a week of heavy rain from the typhoon! Feel free to come here to relax and cool down since September is still quite hot.
長かった雨の1週間も過ぎ、久しぶりに赤目四十八滝に行ってきました！台風の後ということで、迫力の水量。

✨A Day in the Life of a CIR*✨

Nabari city hall’s Yasuke cafeteria is often my go to option for lunch.

Today I got the karaage daily special and it was so good. 3 pieces of crispy chicken with a salad and an orange slice as the main. I love the daily specials because not only do you get a delicious main dish, rice, miso soup sort of pickle but you can freely pick two smaller side dishes such as a rolled omelet, pasta salad or a piece of mackerel. All this for ¥700 ($7 NZD).

Also ordering is super simple, you just walk up to the vending machine and hit the button with your order on it. Each button is helpfully labeled and even easier the daily special has a picture with it so you know exactly what you’re getting. Once you bring your ticket to the friendly staff, wait for your number to be called and there you have it a satisfying cheap meal. The best way to keep your spirits up during a long work day.

⛩️ Niukawakami Shrine, located in Higashiyoshino Village, Nara Prefecture, is a historic shrine founded in 675. It is dedicated to the deity of water. People have long prayed here for bountiful harvests, asking for rain during dry periods and for the rain to stop when it falls too much💧

As a famous anime ninja once said, ‘Always look underneath the underneath,’ I had the opportunity to be shown around some hidden gems in Nabari including Ideca Café, Kunistu winery and two specialist processing factories VCT and E-Nabari.

You may be familiar with persimmon leaf sushi (kakinoha-zushi), but have you ever heard of magnolia leaf sushi (honoha-zushi)? 🍃

This unique delicacy from Higashiyoshino Village features salted mackerel wrapped in magnolia leaves with vinegared rice. It's only available from June to July and has been listed on Japan Heritage.

You can find it for sale at Hiyoshi-no-sato Marché, a small roadside rest area. Please note that the product may be sold out (actual product may differ from the photo).

After being burnt down in March to enhance the grass growth, the blackened Soni Highland is turning greener toward summer (the photos were taken in August). The golden plateau in autumn is lovely, but many locals love the green plateau in summer.

Murou Art Forest is an open-air museum, where giant art objects are installed to be in harmony with nature.
It is located at a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from Murouji Temple, which is renowned for its beautiful rhododendrons that bloom in late April. Although the number of flowers may not be as abundant as during the peak season, you can still enjoy the blooms🌸 (Please note the photo does not depict the current status of the flowers)

Himeshi Myosin Shrine (Mitsue, Nara Pref.) is a unique and sacred site centered around a rock that resembles a woman’s buttock, believed to be connected to a legendary princess. According to tradition, the princess prayed at this very spot for healing from her gynecological ailments, leading to the stone being named “Himeshi,” or “Princess Stone.” The shrine is also revered as a place of worship for a Myojin deity, known for blessings in matchmaking and the safe delivery of babies. Himeshi Myosin Shrine is conveniently situated near Maruyama Park, along the historic Ise Honkaido Old Route.
