It’s something of an understatement to say that Osaka is big. Huge would be a better description – huge, exciting and confusing. Much like visiting Tokyo, getting the most out of your time in Osaka starts before you even get there by choosing accommodation in a convenient area of the city.
Here are some of our recommended areas to book accommodations:

📍UMEDA STATION AREA
Often referred to ‘Kita’ or the northern district of downtown Osaka, Umeda is considered by many visitors as the best place to stay in the city. The area boasts many hotels, great shopping, plenty of restaurants and numerous train lines running in and out of several major stations including JR Osaka Station, Osaka-Umeda Station and Umeda Station.
Just over 5-minutes by train to Shin-Osaka Station and around 10-minutes from the dining and nightlife hubs of ‘Minami’ including Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi-suji and Namba, the Umeda Station Area is a great part of the city to base yourself.

📍NAMBA STATION AREA
Lying directly south of Kita/Umeda Station Area, ‘Minami’ is the southern part of downtown of Osaka and another great area to stay. This is dining and nightlife hub of Osaka with its famous neon signs of Dotonbori, shopping arcade Shinsaibashi-suji and Amerika-mura located in this area along with the always popular shopping and dining oasis of Namba Parks. The Namba Station Area has more mid-range accommodation options including Namba Oriental Hotel, Hotel Monterey Grasmere and Hotel Royal Classic Osaka. Visitors wanting to enjoy some of the best of Osaka’s nightlife without having to worry about missing the last train should consider basing themselves in this area and by doing so, be right in the heart of the action.

📍TENNOJI STATION AREA
Located to the south of the Namba Station area, the neighbourhoods around Tennoji Station are enjoying revitalisation and increasing popularity over recent years. "It was wonderful to have such an extremely knowledgeable English speaking guide to take me and my family around Takayama. My husband especially enjoyed all the detailed information. Our bus ride was great and Shirakawa -go was perfect. My son accidentally left his iPhone and ear buds in the bus, which we realised late in the day. Did you know Japanese macaques do not have a specific nest or living place?

They sleep in places where they are less likely to be attacked by predators and change their sleeping place every day. You can find them sleeping in trees or on steep rocky slopes, often huddled together or crouching and holding their arms and legs for warmth. . . and sometimes you can even find them catching some Zzzs in the onsen.

With the harsh cold weather in Nagano this time of the year, several of the monkeys, including the eldest of the herd 24-year-old Tokkuri, seem to be a bit more lethargic than usual. Just like humans, it appears that monkeys also want to curl up under the blankets and lay around all day on snowy days.

Rare sightings on our Rabbit Island Tour!

We ran into a rabbit during our hike and it made for a fantastic picture with a stunning view of the sea in the background. The baby rabbits, which usually stay hidden and close to their moms, also came out to greet us (and get some food, of course).

Have you ever eaten handmade tofu?

At Tofuya, a restaurant in Ise, chefs wake up early every morning to make tofu from scratch using carefully selected domestic soybeans and natural ingredients. The result is freshly made tofu with a rich taste and sweet aroma---nothing like your basic block tofu from the grocery store.

While most of the set meals are not 100% vegetarian, the staff are very helpful and willing to assist you in finding vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Opened in July 2020, Snow Peak Land Station Hakuba is a combined facility including a flagship store, accommodation, restaurant café and open-area event space. Okunoshima, popularly known as “Rabbit Island,” contains a large wild rabbit population. But this land of fluff also houses a dark secret.

Our Story

Based in Nagano and operating throughout the year, Snow Monkey Resorts (SMR) is a destination management company and leading tour and charter operator, covering Nagano and the mountainous region of Central Japan.

Our story is linked to that of the monkeys! We first opened the SMR Info & Gift Shop at the entrance to the Jigokudani Monkey Park, welcoming visitors from around the world. At the same time, we started providing tours to the park for a small number of international visitors.

Over the years, thanks to the support of our wonderful guests, we have grown into Nagano’s leading tour and charter operator. Welcoming thousands of international visitors to the region each year we continue to introduce numerous guests to the monkeys along with many other unique and engaging destinations.
