After completing his training at the renowned Taiju-en, Ken Fujiwara established his own business, "Bonsai Fujiwara," where he serves as the representative. His bonsai creations are highly regarded for their unique and stylish designs, earning him numerous awards. He also conducts bonsai workshops both in Japan and abroad, including France, Vietnam, China, and the United States.

For Kabuki Fans! Hot Information:

On September 27th (Friday) and 28th (Saturday), there will be a kabuki performance by local volunteers at the Aioiza Theatre in Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture. Admission is free!

Mizunami City is about an hour by train from Nagoya. It is a mountainous town in Japan that retains its original landscape. It is connected to Nakatsugawa and the Nakasendo Road.

Dive into the heart of traditional Japanese culture with our immersive Wadaiko Experience workshop! 🪘

Feel the powerful rhythms and vibrations of the Japanese drums as you not only listen but also get to play these magnificent instruments yourself‼️

Whether you're a complete beginner or just curious, everyone is welcome to join in the fun and excitement.

There are various types of Wadaiko, each with a different appearance and sound.
Feel the differences in sound and resonance with your whole body!

Our instructor, Mr. Suzuki, participates in various events mainly in Aichi. Enjoy their performances too 🎶

After learning from the instructor, everyone will perform a piece together in the end!

皆様、つまみ細工と聞いてどんなイメージが
湧きますか？

伝統工芸ということで、作るのは複雑で難しそう？

実はつまみ細工は、針や糸を使わず、シンプルな
工程でできるんです！
小さな布を折ったり、つまんだり組み合わせ、
台紙に貼り付けるというシンプルさ。

竹内先生がどなたでも楽しく作れるよう
丁寧に教えてくださいます！！

過去二回は、お月見のフレーム、クリスマスの

"Workshop of making a Tsumami-Zaiku artcraft"!

Have you heard of "Tsumami-Zaiku" which is a traditional Japanese art craft?
What kind of image comes to mind?

Do you think it's intricate and difficult because it's a traditional craft?

Actually, Tsumami-zaiku is a simple craft that doesn't require needles or thread!

It's made by folding, pinching, and combining small pieces of fabric and then gluing them onto a base!

No need to worry if you're not good with your hands! Instructor Ms.Takeuchi will teach you gently so anyone can join in comfortably.

In the past, participants loved making seasonal motifs such as moon-viewing and Christmas frames.

This time, we'll be crafting a morning glory frame, which is a symbol of summer in Japan!
It’s also a great project for kids to work on during their summer break.

Let's decorate your room with a Tsumami-zaiku frame and enjoy the cool, refreshing atmosphere while appreciating the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Tsumami-zaiku is a traditional craft that originated from about 200 years ago during the Edo period. It involves pinching and folding small square pieces of fabric to create delicate designs
such as flowers and birds, and more!

⏩About Designs✨

The theme is Asagao (morning glory), which is a symbol of summer and the flower brings a sense of coolness to Japanese people whenever they see it.
You will have the opportunity to craft a beautiful frame featuring it.

【NEWS📢】25 May(Sat)【Nagoya Style Overglaze Painting Experience~ Garasumori: glass bead decoration method🎨🖋】will be held!

⏩ABOUT GARASUMORI✨
Garasumori is unique technique called “Nagoya Painting” featuring overglaze pottery decorations.
One of the representative techniques is “Dekomori”, in which a well refined handmade tool, known as “kappa”,
Is used to trail drawing lines to a white base, which is mainly made of porcelain, Then, before the wet trails have dried,glittering glass powder is layered on the top of them. Hence the name “Garasumori”(Garasu=Glass).

⏩ABOUT DESIGNS
Create your unique decorative plate by choosing your favorite design among the three ones proposed:
💙Blue Rose💛Yellow Rose and 💗Pink Rose!
These plates are also called “mamezara” (tiny plates)
since they feature a diameter within 8cm.
They look like ornamental jewels.

Of course, everyone is regardless of s*x, age or nationality, welcome to participate,the more the merrier.

⏩「ガラス盛り」技法って？
名古屋には「名古屋絵付け」と呼ばれる焼き物に
上絵を施す名古屋ならではの技法があります。
その代表的な技法の１つが“凸盛り（盛り上げ技法）"です。
陶器製白素地に「カッパ」と呼ばれる道具で
盛り絵具を施します。
その中に、細かいガラスを盛りづける「ガラス盛り」技法があります。

⏩今回のデザインのテーマは「薔薇」🌹
青、黄、ピンクの三種類からお好きな色を
一点お選びいただき
豆皿に「ガラス盛り」を施し、
小さな飾り皿を作成します。
皿の直径が8cm以内なので「豆皿」と呼ばれます。
可愛らしく、装飾用の宝石にも見えます。

添乗に行っていたスタッフからのお土産をいただきました！🍀
ドイツの信号機には、(日本と同じく)緑と赤の人型が描かれているのですが、ドイツではアンペルマンという名前でいちキャラクターとして親しまれているようです。
写真にあるグミの他にも、文房具や時計など様々なグッズになっています🟩🟥

【Nagoya-Style Overglaze Painting Experience ~ Garasumori: glass bead decoration method】🎨🖌️will be held for the first time‼️

➡️ABOUT GARASUMORI:
Garasumori is a unique technique called “Nagoya Painting” featuring overglaze pottery decorations. One of the representative techniques is “Dekomori”, in which a well-refined handmade tool, known as “kappa”, is used to trail drawing lines to a white base, which is mainly made of porcelain. Then, before the wet trails have dried, glittering glass powder is layered on the top of them. Hence the name “Garasumori” (Garasu=Glass). Create your unique decorative plate by choosing your favorite Nagoya-themed design among the three ones proposed: shining carp, lily flower and cherry blossoms! These plates are also called “mamezara” (tiny plates) since they feature a diameter within 8 cm. They look like little ornamental jewels😍

➡️NAGOYA-INSPIRED DESIGNS:
1) Shining Carp ✨ Kinshachi (Golden Carp) represents Nagoya and are used as decoration for buildings as a symbol of protection. If you look up at the Nagoya Castle, you will find the golden carp on the roof.
2) Cherry Blossoms 🌸 In spring, during the Sakura Cherry Blossoms Festival, you can enjoy around 1,000 cherry trees such as Somei-Yoshino and weeping cherry at Nagoya Castle.
3) Lily Flowers🌷These flowers represent also another symbol of Nagoya. There are about 10,000 lilies are planted in Chikusa Park and the best viewing time is from late May to mid-June.

⭐️Summer is coming, if you would like to try Bon-dance while dressed in Yukata, then this is the right experience for you❗️This time, you will first learn how to wear a Yukata, and then experience Bon Odori while wearing it.
Let's ask to our Folk Dance teacher the secret of dancing gracefully even in a Yukata⭐️
➡️ "OBON", A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE EARTHLY WORLD AND THE AFTERLIFE
Did you know that Bon-dance appears in different anime and manga❓😁
Bon-dance is the symbol of Japanese summer. It features a style of dancing performed during Obon, a Japanese Buddhist Festival held from Aug 13 to 16 to commemorate the Japanese people’s ancestors. Dancers move in a circle around a Yagura, a temporary scaffold.
During this period the souls of the ancestors return to Earth to visit their families, people return to their hometown in order to honor and pay homage to their forefathers and foremothers by performing beautiful ceremonies. In particular, there is a custom of creating a horse and a cow by using vegetables. The slim cucumber🥒 represents the fast horse and the fat eggplant🍆 represents the slow cow, both of them are put in front of the home altar and offered as vehicles for ancestral spirits when arriving and leaving.

➡️ "Koto" is the sound of Japan
Koto is also known as "The Japanese Harp" and it was introduced to Japan over 1000 years ago from China. This amazing is 180 cm long and it is made by Paulownia wood, a lightweight hardwood used not only for musical instruments such as guitars, but also for geta (traditional Japanese wooden footwear). Koto can be called a "Noble" instrument since it was played at the Imperial Court till the Edo Period (1603-1868) when, thanks to Yatsuhashi Kengyo, a player of Shamisen who learnt Koto from an official Court player, who made it accessible to everyone.
This amazing instrument features a vibrant sound and 13 strings and movable bridges used for tuning. The player plucks the strings with three fingerpicks on the right hand, precisely on the thumb, index, and middle fingers.

Of course, everyone, regardless of s*x or age, is welcome to participate, the more the merrier.
