You may see this guy around Naramachi out on his vintage bicycle. He is the owner of Kitamachi Tofu, a handmade tofu shop that still delivers their tofu in the traditional way. #nara #tofu
This picturesque pond is located just behind the Big Buddha Hall of Todai-ji Temple. It's a great spot to get some magical autumn pictures.

Odaigahara is recognised as one of 100 mountains in Japan chosen for their beautiful views, and spiritual and historical importance.
Along one of the hikes you can enjoy, there is a cliff edge known as Daijakura. You need a steady foot and little bit of nerve to get down to the edge, especially on a windy day, but the view is gorgeous and very rewarding.
About 96% of Totsukawa Village’s area is covered by forests and mountains. Sparkling clear blue rivers, waterfalls and other amazing natural sites can be found throughout the area. One of the most spectacular places in the village is the Dorokyo Gorge at the southernmost tip of Nara Prefecture. Classic canyon walls, hiking, rickety suspension bridges and boat rides await any who venture this far out.

For those seeking solace in simplicity, Inakajaya Chie offers an escape from the hustle and bustle to a secluded hillside, close to town yet quiet, surrounded by nature, with clean air and a great view. Here, guests can experience the charm of a 150-year-old farmhouse relocated from Shiga Prefecture and enjoy a luxurious kaiseki-style meal.
Mentioned in the recent Michelin guide, the food is a highlight, featuring dishes such as wild vegetable ohitashi and tempura, fresh appetizers made with homegrown vegetables, and other seasonal ingredients. Only Nara-grown Hinohikari rice is used, cooked in a traditional kamado with firewood, and served in an ohitsu to bring out the rice's natural sweetness.
The menu changes with the seasons and courses. All three dining tatami rooms have been changed to tatami table seating, accommodating up to 20 people, including one with an irori (sunken hearth) with a horigotatsu (sunken kotatsu). Inakayaja Chie offers a unique and tranquil experience, perfect for those looking to unwind and reconnect with the simplicity of the countryside.

We were recently visited by Nemunas, Lithuania's largest student ensemble. While learning how to make origami deer with our staff, they gave us a quick rendition of one of their pieces.
Enjoy🎵

Ueda Shuzo Sake Brewery Tour
As you may already be aware, the invention and development of sake in Nara is deeply intertwined with Japan's cultural and religious heritage making a visit to a sake brewery here all the more special. Sake brewery tours offer a profound insight into the meticulous art of sake production, a craft honed with precision and passion by the master brewers known as "toji." These artisans dedicate their lives to perfecting a process that transforms simple ingredients—rice, water, yeast, and koji—into the refined flavors of premium sake.

Minami Wasabi | Nosegawa Village
This time last year we visited Nosegawa Village.
The following mini-documentary provides a nice introduction to Minami Wasabi and the magical green vegetable in general.
Nosegawa Village is one of only a few places in the Kansai region that produce wasabi. The clean air and pure water required for wasabi to grow healthily are found in abundance in Nosegawa Village.
