Omi hachiman is famous as a merchant city. In old days, the boat came and went on the canal conveying various commodities from all over Japan. Along the canal some warehouses are still seen. Of course those days, there were more.
Now we can enjoy boat ride.
In Shiga pref, You can enjoy some activities. One of them is Fruit-picking, Now in summer, Blueberry picking, corn picking and peach picking are available. What a fun!!
Of course we can buy some fruits in the shops there.

Jorakuji temple in Konan- chity in Shiga pref. This temple is one of the three fine temples in the south of Lake Biwa. It is not so famous as the other famous three fine temples in the east and nobody but me was there. I fully enjoyed the quiet atmosphere like being in a really local temple.
Today I conducted the tour of Hikone castle in English. I focused on special episodes which are not written in the textbook. Of course I explained how protective the castle were, How trusted the lord was and so on too. The feedback says it was enjoyable. I am very happy to hear that, I have one more tour on coming Thursday
Ohmi-Kohouan temple in Nagahama city.
The founder of the sub temple in Daitokuji, Kohouan, was established by well-known garden designer and tea master, Kobori Enshu. His son made the temple in Shiga pref to make his grave to morn him.
Unlike the one in Kyoto, nobody welcome you. Just you sit viewing the garden and enjoy the quietness here.
This temple is really away from the station, One hour and 30 min walk is required to be there. So nobody there.

Chikubu island is , so-called, energy spot. It is an island in the Lake Biwa. When you are here, you will feel something special or spiritual. The main deity enshrined here is Benzaiten, whose benefit is wreath, art and performance. As a guide, I made a wish to perform well and guide well. The picture of the colorful roof is the gate of the bridge of Osaka castle. The top concubine of the Lord in late 16th century moved out of the castle and finally it reached here. This is the ruin of the original castle.

If you are a little tired after visiting Ishiyamadera temple, how about having a rest here?
Toson, a cafe, serves Japanese style sweets and light lunch.
Especially mochi wrapping red-bean jam, called Tabashiru, is my recommendation. The red-been jam used to make everything here is very nice. Please enjoy cozy time here
The garden of Seiganji temple in Maihara.
Maihara is known as one of Shinkansen stations. From there, just 10 min walk takes you to this temple.
It's a quiet place, and offers a couple of zen service such as zen meditation and copying the sutra and Buddha drawing.
What I like here is quietness and a nice garden.
In the building, there is a small cafe. The monk serves Maccha latte or coffee and cake.
This is one of the (so-called) instagenic spots in Shiga.
Shirahige shrine. The torii gate stands in the lake. If you are lucky, you will see the sun rising in the middle of the gate.
However, the access is not good if you use public transportation.
From JR Ohmi takashima station, 40 min on foot.
Rental bike is available at the station.

When you are walking in the town, sometimes you will see a unique ceramic doll in front of the houses. They are racoons, which is a lucky items. The racoons became very famous thanks to the Emperor's visit to Shigaraki in Shiga.
When the Emperor Show visited Shigaraki, many racoons welcomed him standing along the streets. The Emperor was happy, and later he made a poem telling about when he visited there.
Since then, Shigaraki has been famous for ceramic racoon statues.
Now we have variety of racoons here such as below, a basketball player, sumo wrestler, and the one at the museum. ( he ? is wearing a face mask ) ;)

Ohmihachiman, canal called Hachobori.
Ohmihachiman city is known as a merchant city. In samurai time, canal worked well to carry commodities. Along the canal, there are some warehouses which stored many commercial goods from all over Japan.
You can enjoy short boat ride.
Kano shojuan is a famous confectionary shop originated in Shiga pref. In the plum season, the garden is open to the visitors. Under the trees, you can enjoy sweets and a drink.
Another place to enjoy plum blossoms. This is a special place owned by a confectionary shop in Shiga. It has 1000 plum trees. Now they are fully blooming.
Here you can enjoy Japanese sweets and beautiful blossoms at the same time.
Now winter is getting over and spring is coming near. Plum blossoms tell it to us. In Shiga pref. there are some nice spots to enjoy plum blossoms.
Here, Ishiyamadera temple has small plum gardens which has about 400 plum trees.
