♥Hizen Emukae Mayudama Festival

The colorful Mayutama(New Year's decoration with cocoon-shaped cakes) decorate the spring in Emukae.

Traditionai spring event that many willows and bamboos decorated with a lot of pretty mayutama will be displayed along the Emukae shopping street. During the festival, you can experience making Japanese Soba noodles, or eating icefish alive, etc. Making mayutama which is easy for everyone is also nice. There are restaurants and rest area along the shopping street, so you can enjoy strolling Emukae town all day.

♥Ohashi Kannon Spring Festival

Enjoy the excellent contrast of magnificent nature and the stone bridge.
One of "Hirado Hakkei" the Eight Scenic Views of Hirado Domain, Ohashi Kannon is also famous for its cherry blossoms. There will be as many as about 300 cherry trees in full bloom at the Spring Festival. You will feel the beauty of nature from the scenery of the natural grand stone bridge and the cherry blossoms. You can enjoy viewing cherry blossoms at night from about one week before the opening of the festival as well.

♥Sasebo Koma Hompo

The original folkart of Sasebo crafted with the traditional skills.

The local folk craft, "Sasebo Top" is a traditional Japanese toy, also known as "Fighting Top". It has a diamond-shaped tip made of iron, and each one is carefully made by hand. The title of "The Designated Traditional Crafts of Nagasaki Prefecture" is only for the tops made by Sasebo Koma Hompo. Proudly representing folkcrafts of Sasebo, we produce the tops inspired by four seasons, and hold exhibitions as well.

♥Emukae Honjin Sake Brewery The Main Storehouse of Yamash*ta Family

Valuable brewery tools that recall the past are on display.

Nagasaki Prefectural Historic Site "Emukae Honjin Yashiki" was a accommodation for Lords of Hirado when they traveled on the duty of "Sankin-kotai" the system of alternate attendance in Edo period. The construction is very sophisticated as you can see in "Suikin-kutsu" the water lyre made by gardeners from Kyoto, and "Chinsui-sha" the royal room exclusively for the Lord. "Yamash*ta Family's Storehouse" was originally made for raising yeast of sake during the Genroku era, and it is designated as a tangible cultual property of Nagasaki prefecture. Used a very rare construction method which supports an umbrella shaped roof with only one pole without using nails, it is a work of art left by the craftmen of the time.

♥Maritime Self Defence Force Sasebo Museum "Sail Tower"

A historical exhibition hall of the former Japanese Navy and the Maritime Self-Defence Force.
It is a naval vessels historical museum that inherits the legacy of the former Japanese Navy. Along with an added new seven-story building, a part of the building of the Former Sasebo Navy Club(built in 1898) was restored to establish this museum. It intelligibly explains the history and activities of the former Navy and the Maritime Self-Defence Force, and the models of naval vessels and various historical materials are exhibited as well.

♥Fukui Cave Museum

Travel back in time to the Paleolithic and Jomon periods!
A museum where you can play and learn

Sasebo City has the best historic cave site in Japan. Fukui Cave is a cave site from the Paleolithic to the Jomon period in Yoshii-cho, Sasebo City, and is an important historical site for understanding the changes in cave life and culture. The artifacts discovered during excavations in the Showa and Heisei periods have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties and are on display at the Fukui Cave Museum. In the museum, there is a full-scale diorama of the Fukui Caves using strata collected from the excavation site, a display of excavated artifacts, and a corner for experiencing ancient technology. After learning about the cave at the museum, you can rent a bicycle and go see the cave.

♥Hario Radio Tower

Built in 1922, the only long wave communication facility remaining in Japan.
The three towers made of concrete, standing near Saikai Bridge. It is said that these towers relayed the cipher that initiated the Pearl Harbor attack which set off the outbreak of the Pacific War. These towers with the height of 136 meters which stand on the vertex of a 300 meter-equilateral triangle took five years to built starting Taisho 7(1918).

It is an enormous, strange-looking rock with a height of 10 meters and the width of 20 meters which has holes gigantically hollowed out like glasses, and there is a legend that a monster did it. It is also one of the "Hirado Hakkei(the top eight scenery)" that Lord of Hirado domain loved.

♥Uragashira Hikiage Peace Park and Memorial Museum（浦頭引揚記念平和公園・資料館）

A memorable place that 1.4 million repatriates made the first step back into the homeland after the war.
At the end of World WarⅡ(in 1945 = Showa 20), Sasebo was designated as a port for reception of the repatriates from overseas territories, and about 1.4 million people including military personnel and civilians landed here from September through April, Showa 25(1950). So, this is a memorable place where repatriates made their first step back into the homeland. In 1986, Uragashira Park and Museum were founded with the donation, wishing everlasting peace.

♥Mukyu-do（無窮洞）

An air-raid shelter hand dug in the end of Pacific War time.
"Mukyu-do" is a huge air-raid shelter dug by teachers and students of Miya Village National Elementary School during World WarⅡ(1943). It is large enough for 500 students to evacuate into. There are classrooms with platforms, a kitchen and pantry, and even toilets in order to be able to live and learn during the evacuation.
