Koenji is melting spots of subculture. Suginami city has four stations of the JR Chuo Line that runs through Tokyo metropolitan area. It is known for the attractive towns which are developed from its center outward and has so called, “the JR Chuo Line culture” from the aspect of literature, art, and subculture. Koenji is one of the towns in Suginami City. “Koenji” is named after the Koenji temple

established in the year of 1,555. eople don’t recall the temple when hearing the name, but recall the interesting town for seasonally held four big town events, its unique subculture, and active shopping streets. There are fourteen (14) shopping streets in the town, which contains a lot of one-man operated unique shops like open-air chicken barbecue shops and old cloths. Also, we can find many music clubs in the town, and many prospective musicians and artists live in Koenji. Koenji is often used for a typical Japanese model town in novels and songs. Koenji is not a typical tourist spot, but is the town you can relax and can feel Japanese hospitality.

(Koenji Event - The 65th Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori)
The 65th Tokyo Koenji Awa-Odori will be held both on August 24th Saturday and 25th Sunday in the evening between 17:00-20:00. Many dancers and music instruments players will do their best performances for full two days.
This evening pre-Awa-Odori started. Many dancers were dancing acively along the narrow shopping street.
Koenji Volunteer Guide (KVG) team will provide as much information as possible both through this site and information counter in north square of Koenji station on both two days.
If you are visiting Tokyo, please come to Koenji. The forth stops of Chuo-line to the west from Shinjuku.

(Koenji Event - The 16th Koenji Daidogei)
The 16th Koenji Daidogei festival will be held on both April 27 and 28 12:00-18:00. 51 groups in total 75 artists will come to Koenji town and do their best performances.
This year has consecutive two days event. For these five years due to COVID-19, we couldn't help but squeeze or cancel events, but this year different. Koenji really welcome your visit.
