It was 2 days private customized tour for a family from the U.S., three generations from a grandmother in her 80s to grandkids. It was the first time to visit Japan for most of them and we followed in grandma's foot steps who used to live in Kamakura in her childhood.

Sharing her memory and her favorite places for her own family was so nice and emotional experience.

My private customized tour this time was mainly shopping + sightseeing in Tokyo with my guest from Hong Kong.
It was a first time visiting to Japan for my guest and toured for about a week.

Maybe not many visitors know, Tokyo is the best place to buy second hand, vintage shopping area. A wide range goods from brand bag to clothing in a pretty good condition. There are some area known for vintage shopping.

We visited more than 20 shops to purchase so many clothing and items and enjoyed it for a week.

Welcome to Half day Akihabara Tour from the U.S.! My guest was a family of 3 who love Japanese anime and games.
Japanese manga is different compare with it in other countries. It has many genre that contains more deep story, philosophy, passion, knowledge, humor, details, expression of character's sensitive emotion. Of course, not all manga is good quality, but popular manga has a reason.

When I was a child, I read Osamu Tezuka's manga "Black Jack" which based on medical, human society's theme and spotted people's inner darkness. I learned some from this manga.
Suzue Miuchi's manga "Glass Mask" is also great. A girl met an actress and founded her hidden great talent of being actress and had opened the way to the future.

My recent favorite manga are Blue Rock, Kingdom, The Apothecary Diaries, Haikyu and so on, mostly sport's and historical theme one.

It was fun to talk with my guest and visited many shops based on their preference on that day. Thank you so much for joining.

Let me look back the memory of my tour in March 2024. My tour style is a customized tour based on requests. This tour was "INITIAL D Tour in Gunma prefecture" for my repeat client from the U.S. Our first meeting was in 2023 spring, we had been discussing for this day trip and prepared well. I was so glad to meet them again!

"Initial D" is a popular car racing comic written by Shuichi Shigeno. Main character is a teenager but also a Downhill driving specialist, Takumi Fujiwara.
As you know, Manga/comic is so big in Japan which has so many genres and stories like novels with great skillful pictures.

Shibukawa city and Mt. Haruna in Gunma prefecture are main location of this anime. Many related spots. We were so excited to drive down on Mt. Haruna, especially when we curved at hairpin curves which is the most famous scene. Some bumps are set on the road intentionally, we bounced bounced, bounced,,, it was fun!
We completed to find all manhole covers with main characters of Initial D, visiting museum and more.

It was a memorable time for both of us.

How happy I am! My repeat client from Singapore visited again in Tokyo. Our first meeting was in 2016 and this is their 5th time's tour with me. We visited outside Tokyo area such as in Saitama and Kanagawa prefecture. It's absolutely memorable meeting with them again as always.

3 days Tour with my guest, lovely couple from Chili. I had tours for their relatives about a year ago, then referred me as a guide in Tokyo for this time.
We visited art galleries, contemporary art museum and a beautiful architecture. Luckily, we met an artist, Mr. Kota Kinutani and talked with him about his beautiful stone arts at √K art gallery in Kagurazaka. Visiting this gallery was one of my guest's highlights during the tour.
I would like to become a small bridge to connect between local people and my guests. Meeting new people is fun and leaving a strong impression. It's enjoyable authentic experience.

Half-day SAKE Tour with my guest from the Middle East. We visited Sawanoi Sake brewery in western Tokyo, takes about 1.5 hours by car. It's located in mountain area where they get pure spring water for sake making. We saw the spot that water spring out, I felt so spiritual. The Sake brewery doesn't have air conditioners, but feel so nice and cool, dark and quiet.
After sake tour by a brewer finished, we enjoyed tasting some popular sake of Ozawa brewery. Outside terrace seats are set near stream, we truly enjoyed beautiful nature, their SAKE and chatting with a brewer.

〈Discover Japan- Visit Hamamatsu in Shizuoka〉
Hamanatsu is known as one of the three most famous Gyoza cities in Japan. According to the survey in 2023, annual expenditure on Gyoza in Hamanatsu was top among three cities.
It is simple taste and not heavy. Light texture because includes a lot of chopped cabbage. Good taste!

I posted one of other three, Utsunomiya Gyoza in Tochgi a couple weeks ago with photos on here, enjoy having a look!

〈Discover Japan - Visit Kawagoe in Saitama〉
I often visit Kawagoe and Kawagoe festival with my guests. It’s a historical city where many warehouse style shops remain along the main street and some big temples and shrines.

Here is the place we can learn about Soy Sauce, it is an essential seasoning for Japanese cuisine. Filled with smell of soy inside and it’s great to see. Definitely I recommend you to go there with a guide for better understanding and fun.

New Attraction, "Immersive Fort Tokyo" in Odaiba. It's a live entertainment spot. It seems like you become a part of story or a character of the drama. You enjoy watching a show and dancing along with music of "Oshinoko", popular Japanese animation and others. Many actors and actress are there.
Because I am a fan of Sherlock Homes, I enjoyed The Sherlock very much. It's all in Japanese and walked a lot. Jack the Ripper and Immersive Chase were also fun and scary, but it's easy to understand for anybody. Enjoy!

Famous local food in Lake Hamanako is Unagi, eel! Lake Hamanako is adjacent to ocean and mixed with seawater and fresh water.

There are mainly two ways of cooking Unagi, "Kabayaki" and "Shirayaki". I think most of foreign travelers know "Kabayaki" style which is grilled on fire after dipping sweet soy sauce.

I tired to eat "Shirayaki" in Shizuoka! This is my first time to eat it.
It is grilled on fire after steamed, and no dipping sweet soy sauce. White colored eel was served and taste was so good! Soft, fluffy texture with a bit of fat, very good balance. I put a bit of Yuzu pepper on eel and dipped a bit soy sauce which mixed with ginger and wasabi.

Actually, the way of cooking of Unagi is different depend on the area, Eastside(Kanto) and Westside(Kansai) of Japan.

When you have a chance, I recommend you to try both "Kabayaki" and "Shirayaki" at specialized Unagi restaurant.

Peace is a wish for everyone. Even look at the same incidents and things, people see things subjectively, mostly from one side only. It causes troubles and triggers misunderstanding easily. It's nice to have an objective mind and try not to make wrong assumption, hopefully start to talk each other.

This is Yushukan museum where you can learn about War. There are many soldier's letters and family's letters which sent or left to love one from fields. Sadly, not many English translation for soldier's personal belongings which have their own stories.
There is an English translation about history, but maybe it's better to take someone who translate.

"AFRO MINGEI" by Theaster Gates at Roppongi Mori Art Museum, his first and largest solo exhibition in Asia.
I admire his installation and excellent artworks influenced by his African American community, social and cultural movement, his father, Japanese crafts especially, Mingei. His art expression is involved with racial, cultural perspective that lying on the society and he asks us questions of race and politics.

Ceramic /Pottery festivals were held in many areas during Golden weeks.
Karatsu city in Saga is the one of them which is famous for Karatsu ware, Karatsu-yaki. 25 kilns of Karatsu ware set temporary galleries near Karatsu station during the festival. I enjoyed to visit one by one to see their latest works and talked with artisans.
Knowing about their passion, idea and story of their works definitely enhanced its value.

Karatsu ware is one of famous potteries which has about 400 years old history and there are about 60 kilns in Saga nowadays. Karatsu-yaki are used in our daily life like dishes, vase, cups as well as tea utensils in tea ceremony. There are several different colors, design and style of Karatsu ware such as E-karatsu, Madara-karatsu, Kuro-karatsu, Chosen-Karatsu, Ao-karatsu depending on clay, glaze, and techniques.

The 12th Karatsu Kiln Tourism will be held on November 16th and 17th 2024. Many Kilns will be opened to public and enjoy talking with artisans, shopping, experiencing to make your own pottery. If you are interested in Japanese traditional crafts and arts, please get a chance to visit.

Explore hidden gem in Tokyo! I visited Ozawa Sake brewery with my guest from the Middle East. This Sake Brewery is located in Oume city in Tokyo which takes about 1.5 hours from the central Tokyo by car. It's beautiful country side of western Tokyo with abundance of nature like mountains and streams.
Ozawa Sake brewery has about 300 years old history and the 23rd owner of brewery has been run a family business. Once you step in the Sakagura, you feel a sacred atmosphere and 300 years old history. It's dark, very quiet and cool. When I saw pure spring water in a well, I had a similar feeling again and thank to a blessing of nature.
They make several different types of Sake at brewery. Some sake are made by using wooden tank instead of steel tank. I saw some aged sake called "Koshu" which is not so common sake in Japan, but I impressed for their challenging of making aged sake.
It was a lovely time to see one of Japanese traditional culture, making Sake and spent a great time with my guest.

Yobuko is not only for morning market but also has an unique nature spot. Let's take an excursion boat "Ikamaru" from Yobuko port to visit Nanakamado Cave! It's a big natural cave looks like consists of 7 furnaces made of basalt. When you get closer to the cave, you see fabulous natural phenomenon, basaltic columnar joints. This is a great gift from nature. It's absolutely must-see spot in Yobuko.

The best spot to eat very fresh squid! Ika in Japanese. Fishermen catch four different types of squid in Yobuko area all year around. Aori Ika in December-January, Ko Ika in February, Sasa Ika in March. Kensaki Ika between April and November. For sure you will be amazed how fresh and its soft texture!

It's one of my pleasant things to do , introducing many great places in Japan to my guests in all over the world.

〈Discover Japan- Visit Yobuko in Saga〉
Yobuko morning market, one of the three biggest morning markets in Japan.

Starting at 7:30 am on most of everyday except on New Year holiday, finishing around noon. Fresh seafoods caughted by fishermen in Genkai Sea, local vegetables and fruits are lined up on the street. Local people set food vendors and shops temporary in the morning, enjoy talking and selling their fresh foods. We are able to feel what Japanese people cherish in their daily life... like harmonious relationship, consideration for others, politeness and respect.

The root of Yobuko morning market can trace back to the Edo period when Yobuko was a bustling whaling port. It's located next to Yobiko port which is famous for fresh squid.

Thank you for reading my post. Some tips for you.
1. It's better to arrive about an hour before of your tour time. Enjoy Looking at shops and having sweets and foods at restaurant.
2. There is a clerk so that you can leave your stuff.
3. Don't miss several photo spots at outside on the way from train station to Studio. The journey of Harry Potter studio experience starts from Toshimaen station(Seibu line).
4. It's nice to rent an audio guide if you'd like to know more about story of Harry Potter movies.

My other favorite parts of Harry Potter Studio is learning remarkable sound effects, exquisite props and arts. I feel some similarities of those details that can be seen in our Japanese culture and art crafts as well. Great quality of Harry Potter movie created by those extraordinary people's efforts and digital skills development.
Recently, artificial Intelligent also comes into play in many fields including movie. Never stop, keep moving forward. Wow, super!

One of the two Harry Potter Studios in the world is here in Tokyo! I've been to another one in England in a couple years ago. It was enjoyable and enjoyed the world of Harry Potter where it is originated.

However, one in Tokyo is even better for me! Harry Potter Studio in Tokyo has more unique attractions and can enjoy immersive experiences a lot. I love one of the CG attractions that is attending cheering seats to cheer for Gryffindor or Slytherin Quidditch team, as if you become a part of famous scene of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Do you remember the scene that Harry Potter got Golden Snitch on his first Quidditch game? Other my favorite CG attractions are riding on a broom and experience of Floo powder at Ministry of Magic. So cool!
