The yukata is a traditional Japanese clothing. Unlike formal kimono, yukata is typically made of cotton rather than silk, and is worn casually during the summer or for festivals. When you visit Kinosaki Onsen, which is known for its seven public bathhouses in the little town, the inn will provide you with yukata as relaxation wear and you can stroll along the willow-lined streets after changing into it.
Those looking for more options of colors and designs can visit the yukata rental shop in town.

The private hot spring baths inside ryokan, or traditional Japanese inns, can be used per reservation or on a first-come-first-served basis, sometimes for an extra charge. That way, guests can enjoy a relaxing soak either by themselves or with their friends, family, or partner, away from other guests. 2020 is the 1300th anniversary of Kinosaki Onsen, a historic hot spring town with seven hot spring bathhouses located within walking distance of each other.

The history of Kinosaki Onsen began with a Buddhist monk named Dochi Shonin who prayed for 1,000 days in the town to save the people from suffering. On the 1,000th day, hot spring water came forth. There are very few onsen in Japan that are as old as Kinosaki and have an actual recorded founding date. Kinosaki Onsen has been found noted in various historical documents that can authenticate its founding date to 720 AD.

While COVID-19 is keeping folks around the world at home, we will be posting photos, so that you can virtually travel while the world is navigating towards a brighter future. We have been preparing to make the return to travel as safe as possible with new guidelines and efforts.

Japanese gardens are beautiful places to be, whether it be a famous garden, at an unknown temple or at a traditional ryokan - so beautiful and peaceful. This one was attached to the Nishimuraya Honkan in the beautiful hot spring town of Kinosaki Onsen."

Izushi Eirakukan is the oldest kabuki theater in the Kansai region! Built in 1901 and restored in 2008, the theater still holds classic Kabuki, Kyogen, and Rakugo shows each year. When not used for performances, guests may take a tour backstage to see the mechanisms of the rotating stage, dressing rooms, and more. The stage and walkway are also attractive for modern theater, with Eirakukan being the venue for upcoming shows such as the Toyooka Theater Festival and Yasuko Yokoshi's "Shuffleyamamba".
