Enjoy Fresh Seafood at Wasini Island!!

Lunch at the restaurant is always served using the freshest seafood – fish and crab, our specialty, and is brought daily to the beach by the fisherman who can be seen waving cheerily from their dugout canoes. The trading dhows from the East have for centuries influenced Swahili Coastal culture and the many cargos of spices have created interesting, mouthwatering dishes.

Specializing in Swahili cuisine and all dishes — whether vegetarian, from the sea or from the land — have a hint or more of exotic spice. Don’t forget to take a look at our well-received Swahili Blue menu if you have a craving for Swahili-style cuisine.

The many orchards and shambas (farms) of the coast also provide us with juicy exotic fruits. Our policy is to buy fresh and from the local farmer and fisherman. This way, you help us to provide an income to the local community.

Somewhat naughtily — but careful not to influence the younger island generation on a predominately Muslim island of gentle folk — we are the only licensed restaurant on the island and we specialize in making long, thirst-quenching boozy & non alcoholic cocktails for our guests, not to forget Arabic coffee & Swahili tea…

The Dolphins of the Kisite Marine Park

The combination of sheltered area - lagoons, islands and coral reefs - and food rich upwelling areas in the Kisite Marine Park and Shimoni areas provides an excellent breeding and feeding habitats for whales and dolphins which may explain the large numbers of found in the area.
Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins

These lovely dolphins are present year round close to reefs, it has a 'bottlenose' beak and is grey on the back and whitish below with darker spots on the belly (which tells you it is not a common bottlenose dolphin) They also have a large, sickle-shaped dorsal fins. They love playing around the boats especially on the ride out to the Kisite Marine Park.

Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins

The Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins are also present at Wasini, usually very close to shore or in the channel. They have a small dorsal fin that sits on a hump. They also have a characteristic surfacing pattern, where the long beak comes out of the water at a steep angle before the rest of the head. It is generally shy of boats.

Spinner Dolphins

They usually travel in very large groups of 50 to 200 animals. They are very active at the surface, including amazing acrobatic displays, often spinning as they leap. they have a slender body, a long thin beak and often a dark flipper to eye stripe. The dorsal fins in the adult males may tend to lean forward, so that it looks like it is sitting the wrong way round.

Fun Divers and Beginners

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater. If you want to find out but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, the Wasini dolphin Tours Fun Dive is the perfect opportunity to experience scuba diving for the first time – gently helped & guided by one of our experienced diving instructors. Safe, fantastic & fun.

There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to –after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that – but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, our divers realize how easy scuba diving really is. The biggest challenge our instructors have with the Fun Divers is not coaxing participants into the water, but coaxing them out when the dive is over!
