Have you ever wondered why hippos yawn? Legend has it that thousands of years ago Hippos were land dwelling animals but the hot African sun meant they were subject to sunburn on their delicate pink ears. So they called a meeting with God.

At the meeting they asked God if they could spend their days in the cool water of rivers and ponds so they could cool their hot bodies and prevent their delicate pink ears from sunburn. God, at first, was not sure about this. He was worried that the Hippos wanted to feast on the numerous fish in the rivers and ponds. The hippos protested at this assumption.

So they decided to make a deal with God. If he would let them spend their days in the cool water they would several times a day open their mouths toward the heavens and show God they did not have any fish in their mouths.

God thought about this proposal and after some time he agreed. So the hippos entered the water and several times a day opened their mouths to show God that they did not have any fish in their mouths. And all this time you thought hippos were yawning!

The lappet-faced vulture is one of the most aggressive of African birds. It possesses one of the strongest beaks, usually arriving last to the carcass due to its ability to tear off skin, tendons, and ligaments that are too tough for smaller scavengers. In fact, they are able to strip a small antelope carcass to the bone within 20 minutes.

Because of their dominating size, they will often scare off or steal from smaller vultures.

These vultures do not feed strictly on carrion; they have been known to sit by termite mounds or locust nests and eat them as they emerge from their holes.

Lappet-faced vultures sometimes raid flamingo colonies, killing adults, young, and eating the eggs.

They are usually solitary or live in pairs. Contrary to popular belief, they do not locate carrion by smell. They find carcasses by watching the behavior of other birds.

Their featherless heads and necks help them to keep clean because they can shake off any sticky remains of their meals. The sun bakes off any bacteria or parasites since this the hardest part of the body to preen.

These birds have a larger wingspan than any other vulture in Africa.

She's one of the B/R queens, am amazed on how the pride has been growing in 2-3 years now. In as much as they face the challenges of Tanzania and Olderkesi nomads but they have really maintained it over years now. Hope to see how the coalition of the teen males will be very soon, since it's a number of them.

Leopards are big cats known for their golden, spotted bodies and graceful, yet ferocious hunting techniques.
Leopards spend a lot of their time in trees. Their spotted coat camouflages them, making them blend in with the leaves of the tree.
They will often drag their prey into trees to keep it from being taken by other animals.
They are solitary creatures that only spend time with others when they are mating or raising young.
They are also nocturnal and spend their nights hunting instead of sleeping.
