Shovel-billed kookaburra is a species of kingfisher that has large, shovel-like bill designed for the excavation of prey from the soil. Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of losing my father, Hassani Shapi. He was a remarkable man, known for his infectious sense of humor, his caring nature and his genuine kindness towards everyone he met. His presence had the unique ability to light up any room, and his warmth and generosity left a lasting imprint on all who met him.
We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all of you during this difficult time. Your kind words and memories of him have provided us with immense comfort and strength. Thank you for sharing how he has brought light and happiness into your lives.

Our Story

Kinazini Funzi Dhow Safari is a family venture which was started in 1992. Kalthum Lueth and Heinrich Lueth bought the company in 2009.

With the company came a lot of workers from the previous owners who are still happily working with Kinazini Funzi Dhow Safari. Otis has been with the company since 1997. Miraji, who is the chief captain of the sailing fleet, has been with the company since 1993. With the decline of tourism in Kenya in 2013/2014, the Lueths decided to slow down operations. With the demise of Heinrich Lueth in February, 2017, the company stopped all operations. We are now very glad to announce that intense work is being carried out on the dhows, boats and all equipment and locations.
