Reteti Elephant Sanctuary is a Samburu community owned and run wildlife sanctuary in Northern Kenya. Reteti rescues orphaned and abandoned elephant calves with the aim to release them back into the wild.
It's also home to other rescued wildlife.
Reteti is off the tourist circuit so visitors get a really authentic and unique experience.
A short drive from Reteti is a giant rock which is a cool graffiti painting by French artist, Youri Cansell.

White rhinos have wide, flat mouth as they graze on grass. In comparison, black rhinos have pointy, hooked lips as they eat leaves from trees and bushes.

The unusual Secretary Bird is found in open grasslands and Sub Saharan Africa.
Has head & beak of a hawk, body of an eagle and long legs giving her better vantage point when searching for prey.
The feet are a steady stamping machine with its mighty blows able to shutter bones.
Has tough skales on legs to protect from snake bites.
They prey on small animals and are skilled in killing venomous snakes.
Have hollow bones therefore not too heavy for flight.

Happy WORLD GIRAFFE DAY - We are celebrating the tallest mammal on earth.
Did you know:
1. The age of the giraffe can be determined by the color of the spots on the skin - the darker they are, the older the individual.
2. Despite the huge length, the neck of the giraffe is actually too short for him to reach the ground. Therefore, in order to raise something from the floor, they have to kneel or spread their front legs widely.
3. The quivering heart of a giraffe beats 170 times a minute.
4. With such a massive body, it makes sense that the giraffes' organs and other body parts are equally huge. Their tongues are a substantial 21 inches (53 centimeters) long, and their feet are 12 inches (30.5 cm) across. The giraffe's heart is 2 feet (0.6 m) long and weighs about 25 lbs. (11 kg). Their lungs can hold 12 gallons (55 liters) of air. In comparison, the average total lung capacity for a human is 1.59 gallons (6 liters).

It has been a really quiet time with the pandemic. We made a trip to Tsavo West and came across these beautiful animals. There is something incredibly serene about witnessing African Wild dogs in the wilderness...
Did you know the scientific name of the African Wild dog is Lycaon Pictus?. This means "Painted wolf" and refers to the appearance of their coats which is individual to each dog, just like a fingerprint.
