Takawiri Island
It is also known as the Love Island.A coastal feel by the lake.It may as well be termed as the crowning Jewel of Western Kenya.With a stretch of white sandy beach,tall palm trees and the clearest of blue water,all the key characteristics of the Kenyan coast. One would think Takawiri is located in Lamu,Diani or even Zanzibar judging by the pictures alone.
A drive from Nairobi to Mbita takes approximately seven hours with a stop over for lunch, after which we arrange for a boat ride with a local fisherman to the Island.This takes approximately an hour. You could also fly in to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay County then a pick up will be arranged. There is also a resort at the Island known as the Takawiri Island Resort. The hotel charges five hundred shillings per person on getting to the beach because it is a private property. The resort has cottages,a restaurant and camping grounds. The menu is largely Kenyan, Indian and Continental,with the owner doubling as the chef.
You can undertake different activities at the Island including, swimming,bird watching, sport fishing,wind surfing,paddle boarding and snorkeling.
Everything in Takawiri is refreshing. The location,ambience, nature and the people. Takawiri is the master of all fine things. It is the perfect place to catch the sunset and generally a place to just chill,read a book, meditate and see life in natural pure form.
