This holiday season, Mount Elgon Foundation is hosting a centerpiece fundraiser of the Chemukung Raffle, featuring a stunning bronze sculpture by renowned Nairobi artist Denis Mathews of Matbronze. This unique piece celebrates the remarkable story of Chemukung, a Mount Elgon elephant rescued from a life-threatening snare in 2020 by a collaborative effort of East Africa Wild Life / Mount Elgon Elephant Project (EAWLS/MEEP)., Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS). After her dramatic rescue, Chemukung went on to have two calves—symbols of hope for Mount Elgon’s elephants.

Next up this ‘giving’ season and close to our hearts here at Bush & Beyond is

Unique in Kenya, the Ragati Conservancy lies on the Southern slopes of Mt. Kenya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and consists entirely of afro-montane forest and afro-alpine heath.

Its ecosystem includes the Ragati river and its tributaries, and is home to an abundance of wildlife; elephant, buffalo, leopard as well as the rare mountain bongo, crowned eagle and African clawless otter. Home also to some amazing birdlife.

The river is an ideal habitat for rainbow trout, providing a fantastic opportunity to fish in crystal clear mountain tributaries running through pristine forest. So come and enjoy one of the best fishing and walking experiences that Kenya, and indeed East Africa, has to offer.
