Lake Kapedo in Turkana County

Located in Kapedo, Turkana East is a red blood like alkaline lake. As the lake dries out, its salinity increases. The warm water's high salt concentration makes what's left of the lake a prime breeding ground for dunaliella algae, which turns the water blood-red.

Kajulu forest is a rehabilitated land as a result of deforestation. The forest which cover 100 acres, used to be a danger to the community due to the falling rocks.

Rehabilitation started in 2009,
In 2015 the community started a CBO and in 2019 the forest was registered as Kajulu community Forest.

Through the interventions of Kajulu Community Forest, the land has been reclaimed and converted to an eco-tourism destination.

Today, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife , Kisumu County, the Tourism stakeholders and the Local community planted 3000 trees.

Tree growing activity was the first activity to mark UN Tourism week 2024. The PS John Ololtuaa PS Tourism used the opportunity to launch the initiative
