Today I visited Kazuri Beads Factory.
Kazuri Beads is a thriving business located in Nairobi, Kenya, known for its beautiful handmade beads and pottery. The name "Kazuri" means "small and beautiful" in Swahili, which perfectly describes the colorful and unique creations that come from this workshop.

Kazuri Beads was founded in 1975 by an English woman named Lady Susan Wood, who wanted to create jobs for local women. She started with just a few women making beads at her home, but the business quickly grew as the demand for their products increased. The beads are made from clay, which is locally sourced, and then shaped, painted, and baked to create stunning jewelry and decorative items.

One of the significant impacts of Kazuri Beads is the empowerment it has brought to women in the community. Many of the women who work there are single mothers or heads of households. By providing them with stable jobs, Kazuri enables them to support their families and improve their living standards.

Working at Kazuri Beads also offers women training in various skills, such as craftsmanship, financial management, and business operations. This knowledge helps them build confidence and independence, allowing them to become financially stable and self-reliant.

Moreover, Kazuri Beads values fair trade principles, ensuring that all workers receive fair wages and safe working conditions. The company also emphasizes environmental sustainability by using eco-friendly materials in their production process.

Today, Kazuri Beads is not just a jewelry business; it is a symbol of hope and empowerment for many women in Nairobi. With its commitment to creating beautiful products while uplifting the community, Kazuri Beads continues to thrive and inspire both locally and globally.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the factory anytime and can purchase souvenirs to take back home. I bought myself this Amani necklace and earrings work sh. 8,000. This particular masterpiece is so dear to me and I love it so much.

Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round! Let me take you on an unforgettable adventure I just had with my Silver Fox, a quintessential Luo gentleman. This past weekend, we left the chaotic embrace of Nairobi behind, ready to dive headfirst into the wild and wonderful beauty of Laikipia County at the charming Lalanasi LODGE. Buckle up because this is going to be fun!

Now, the drive itself was nothing short of enchanting. We hit the road on Thursday, I swear the city began to vanish in our rearview mirror, replaced by rolling hills, acacia trees, and, if I’m not mistaken, a couple of cows who seemed to be auditioning for a new reality show! The fresh air that greeted us was invigorating—like that first sip of coffee on a Monday morning when you've hit snooze one too many times. Each twist and turn of the road felt like a plot twist in a movie, and the flowers popping up along the way seemed to wave hello. I could feel the excitement bubbling up as we got closer to our destination.

Upon our grand arrival at Lala Nasi Lodge, I was instantly smitten. Picture this: a hidden gem nestled on a lovely farm—where ranching and dairy animals run the show! We were welcomed by cheerful sheep and playful goats that seemed to be practicing their stand-up comedy routines. Trust me, nothing says relaxation like a sheep giving you a “what’s up” look while munching on grass.

The lodge and our cozy Tentet Camp blended into nature so seamlessly that it felt like we were part of a painting. Each morning, we woke up to a symphony of nature: birds chirping their best hits, leaves rustling an appreciative applause, “Good morning, sunshine!”

Their meals are fresh and organically grown in the farm. We savored some incredibly fresh meals, all thanks to the lodge's organic vegetable garden. Everything came straight from their farm—eggs, milk, meat, and even pork—each dish was so delicious! And get this: they also have a secret aromatic garden filled with various herbs that can help heal or prevent all kinds of ailments. It felt wonderful to know that our food was not only fresh but also good for our health!

Now, let’s get to the main event—the adventures! We kicked things off with zip-lining through the trees and the dam. Imagine this: there I was, an adult girl harnessed in, soaring high above the ground like I was auditioning for a superhero movie! The wind whipped past my face, and for those exhilarating moments, I genuinely felt like I could conquer the world. I mean, who needs to be grounded when you can fly, right?

After the buzz of adrenaline wore off, we traded in our superhero capes for paddles and went canoeing on the serene waters nearby. The farm has several dams. Each stroke of the paddle felt like a soft hug from Mother Nature. We saw colorful birds soaring above us and, lo and behold, a few cheeky geese who decided we were the newest members of their fan club. The calmness of the water was a perfect remedy to our Nairobi madness—a little slice of tranquility!

Fishing was also on our agenda, and boy, did we try hard! We cast our lines like seasoned pros but, in classic fashion, ended up with nothing more than each other’s great company. Well, I fished 2 small ones. Silver Fox got nothing. He is impatient. But who needs fish when you have stories and laughs flying around? We practically invented a new kind of fishing called “Catch and Release Your Dignity!”

The following day, we hopped onto quad bikes. Talk about exhilarating! It felt like we were racing through an action movie—an off-roading sequel nobody knew they needed. The bumps, the dust, the thrill! At some point, I did half a lap looking like a dust-covered rock star, but hey, it’s all part of the adventure, right?

Horse riding was next on our list. We trotted through the bush, the rhythmic sound of hooves was oddly soothing. It felt like we were in an old Western film, minus the gunslinging, of course. And while we were out there, we spotted wildlife that made us feel like we were in an episode of “National Geographic.” Who would have thought nature could be so spectacular?

One of the real highlights was the guided nature walks. With our knowledgeable guide leading the way, we wandered through hidden trails that felt like something out of a fantasy book. Each step opened up new treasures of flora and fauna that made me feel like I was in an exploration club—minus the serious attire!

On Saturday, we continued our adventure, we decided to take a refreshing swim, which lifted our spirits. After that, we set off on a beautiful evening drive through the lovely countryside. The sun began to set, and the sky changed into wonderful shades of orange and pink, making our drive even more special. Our goal was Thompson Falls, a stunning waterfall in Nyahururu, just about 30 kilometers from our lodge. The sound of the water falling was like music to our ears as we stood there, amazed by the beauty of nature. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable day.

And just when you think it can’t get any better, we finished off our adventure with a romantic bush dinner under a canopy of stars. Imagine this: candles flickering, delicious food that could make a Michelin chef weep, and a sky so full of stars it looked like a spilled jar of glitter. It was the perfect way to bond, sharing dreams over laughter and good food. Honestly, it was so magical it could win an Oscar for "Best Romantic Scene."

My fellow adventurers, if you’re itching for some nature therapy, thrills, and a cozy escape, I wholeheartedly recommend Lala Nasi Lodge. It’s a perfect marriage of country charm and wild excitement. Trust me, you’ll leave with a heart full of memories and a spirit ready for more adventures. This beautiful corner of Kenya is just waiting for you to dive in, and who knows—you might even bump into a goat or two! Thank you!

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of accompanying my guests to the Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi, a captivating site that offers a glimpse into the life of the renowned Danish author who lived in Kenya during the early 20th century. The museum is located in Blixen's former farmhouse, where she resided from 1914 to 1931 while managing a coffee plantation.

We explored the beautifully preserved house and its picturesque gardens, visitors could admire Blixen's original furnishings, personal effects, and photographs that tell the story of her time in Africa. The museum also showcases her literary contributions, particularly her famous memoir "Out of Africa," which reminisces about her experiences and the landscapes that inspired her writing.

In addition to the main house, the museum grounds feature an informative exhibition and a charming gift shop that offers local crafts and literature related to Blixen's life and works. Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the Ngong Hills, further enhancing the museum's serene atmosphere.

The Karen Blixen Museum not only celebrates the author's legacy but also serves as a poignant reminder of the complex history between Kenya and its colonial past, making it a must-visit destination for tourists and literature enthusiasts alike.

The vervet monkeys have very beautiful blue balls. The monkeys with the blue testies are grouped or placed in, "ranks" which means where an individual stands in the social status. Males with a higher rank usually have better chances of finding females and resources, while lower-ranked males have to work harder to compete for them.

The bright blue colour of a male vervet monkey's testicles is a way to show others in the group how healthy, dominant, and powerful he is. When a male is strong and has a high social rank, his blue colour is bright. If he becomes less dominant or is challenged by other males, the blue colour fades.

This change in colour affects how females see them. Higher-ranked males are more appealing to females because their shiny blue colour suggests that they are sexually strong and have healthy sperms. Females are more likely to choose mates based on this colour signal. So, while the colour doesn't directly change how they act, it helps influence social interactions and mating decisions in the group.

In Kenya, the vervet monkeys are mostly found in Tsavo East and West National Park, Lake Nakuru National park, Nairobi National park and Masai Mara.
