The Sanctuary takes in orphaned and abandoned elephant calves with the aim to release them back into the wild herds adjoining Reteti.

Governors' Mugie House
With a planned opening for early April 2020, Governors’ Mugie House will be the perfect addition to the Governors’ Camp Collection, expanding an already diverse array of wildlife locations and activities.

Set on a private conservancy, Mugie House offers a myriad of activities by which to explore and enjoy its vast open landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Perched on a hill are nine individual stone cottages, each with sweeping views of the Laikipia landscape. A large main house with open log fires will host guests for relaxing cocktails and scrumptious meals, prepared from a creative menu with ingredients sourced from our own vegetable garden. An infinity pool offers lovely shaded areas and a casual alfresco dining area, while a large waterhole set in front of Mugie House attracts a variety of wildlife with a hide to offer some close encounters.

The open plains of the Lamai Wedge are incredibly beautiful and abundant in game. The landscape is reminiscent of scenes from Out of Africa, and there is plenty of freedom to roam. The camp is situated opposite Crossing Point 4, midway among all crossing points along the river. Away from the river, this area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with enormous herds of wildebeest.

Maasai Trails is all about your guides, local Maasai from the Loita area, who are eager to share their customs and culture, whilst teaching you the lore of the bush. The Loita Maasai who lead you on these trails are reputed to be the most conservative of this tribe, dedicated to their traditions, ceremonies and rites of passage. Whether one wants to walk into the sacred Loita forest to a hidden waterfall, to the edge of the Great Rift Valley, or find a way of combining all the trails … the beauty of Maasai Trails is the flexibility, and they are happy to accommodate any experience in this beautiful wilderness.
