Happy International Cheetah Day!

Did You Know.....

Cheetah cubs have long tall hair that runs from their neck all the way down to the base of their tail, called the mantle. The mantle makes a cheetah cub look like a honey badger and makes them blend into tall grass, which helps keep them safe from threats like lions and hyenas.

VULTURES...
the scavenger, cleaner and once in a while hunter

They dive into the carcass and come up for breathe...a mass of stabbing blood-dripping beaks and thrashing wings; their necks and heads sparsely feathered to help to keep all the blood, guts as well entrails content from clinging on them....its a revolting sight but someone has to do the job.

VULTURES, these are not your average birds, not by a long shot; considered to be the face of evil and death by some. However without these highly misunderstood birds, the stench of death would hang in the air, polluting everything we see and smell.., they clean up after death, stripping skin, flesh and guts and leave only bones; only handing over the bare bones to the maggots to finish of what their beaks could not reach. So next time you see them, seemingly fighting over a carcass and what's left of it, remember they are the ecosystems' cleaning and recycling service, that will easily tear through and strip a zebra, tip to tail in 30 minutes flat leaving the place clean for you next game drive 😉

World Elephants Day!

These majestic creatures are a testament of true bonds in the family...from birth they take care of their own and when the entire herd will move at the pace of the weakest member 🤗. They move with such stealth that you will not hear them coming until they are upon you...they enjoy mud baths, splashing in water and an occasional spray of dust.

In death, they mourn deeply and genuinely; in musth, the males will give any moody female a run for their money 😂😂...they are creatures of habit and extremely dependable (ask anyone who has been to ); when you form a bond with them, it's for life and they never forget so you better make sure its a positive one 🤔....

And today we celebrate these formidable creatures, for their grace, strength, loyalty and beauty. Who knew, having long nose and overgrown elongated incisors would look so good on anyone 😁😁....
