The great Rift valley
. Longonot
3days 2 nights sleeping in the volcano.
This is doable since we do have two campingsites in the volcano. (This is for those who have more time, otherwise 1night 2days is also good)

DAY1: Arrival at the main gate at 1200hr.
Meeting point and have introduction of everyone in the team. Check out and pack everything that is required for the hike. All park fees gets settled, this activity should take not more than an hour and half. Take off as later as 0200hours,heading to the east side of the Crater for day1 night at Nyati campsite. Expected at the camp here at around 0430hrs, relaxing a bit is good as tent awaiting to be pitched, or the team work together for firewood. Pitch the tents and later start camp fire. We prepare dinner, you have a drink for you, good to go enjoy it at the campfire, and get to sleep at your own pressure but most of us stays at the campfire having stories till midnight.

DAY2: MORNING AT NYATI CAMPSITE.
Sun rise at 0625hrs, anyone interested to see the sun rise, have to get up as early as 0530hrs and hike out to the rim of the Crater so to enjoy this, but this is optional,(no one interested, then get up later for breakfast), and start packing for the trekking in the nature trail in the volcano.
0945hrs take off to the next camp, this might take us 5hours through thick and dence trail, trekking before we get to the camp. Shall have packed lunch along the way. 0830 is the Expected time at ever green campsite. Relaxing is good and having our tents pitched is better. The team work together and pick firewood for camp fire. As the darkness approaches our camp, we start the campfire as we prepare our dinner for the night as you enjoys your drink around the fire, waiting for your dinner. Take your bed at your own pressure.

DAY3: 0800HRS, GET UP FOR BREAKFAST.
Since we have no more activity, no need to wake up early. We have breakfast, get everything packed ready for the ascend off the volcano towards the end of the hike debriefing at the gate, and the team parts for home.

The great Rift valley, Mt. Longonot.
Wild camping in a volcano part 1.
In the great Rift valley here comes the extinct volcano of Mt. Longonot. Most tourists from both domestic and international tourists likes and enjoy the hiking up and round the Crater, but not many knows that one can hike down to the bottom of the Crater. It was few years ago when I joined as guide in this park, that many always ask “if anyone have been down in the volcano”. To find the answer, my friends guides and i had to find our way down to the volcano and it is same way we do till today. You would not have fun hiking down without spending at least a night. We do have two camping points inside the volcano.
in a volcano

“Are there animals inside the Crater?” many people will always ask.
Yes we do have animals, some goes inside and out every time they will, namely, Leopard, baboons, clipspringer(an antelope like a mountain goat), rock hyrax and have sported a rock python once. There are plesent of mountain ridback though always stays inside and never come out. Most animals that always stays in, never take mouth water. We do have steam vents around the walls and the bottom of the Crater and no water.
claws marks.

Leopard claw marks running twenty feet to the branches above.

This is the evidence that we have Leopards in the volcano, but there is nothing to worry since they are very shy though can be very aggressive once provoked or when with cubs. Again since all this time have seen it 3 times and never had contacts with them, only that we hear sounds from a distance,in the middle of the night, maybe cubs calling their momma out of the cold.
