Action, drama, tragedy – Masai Mara's popular cheetahs had them all!πŸ‘‡

πŸ† The Magnificent Five:
Cheetah coalitions are usually no bigger than 2 or 3 members. But the Tano Bora was an exception since it had five male cheetahs: Olpadan, Olarishani, Olonyok, Leboo, and Winda. The out-of-the-ordinary alliance of these feisty hunters aptly got its name, Tano Bora, meaning β€œThe Magnificent Five” in Swahili!

🐾 Heroic Hunters:
The five cheetahs exhibited extraordinary hunting skills in the savannah. While most cheetahs usually prey upon smaller animals like impalas and gazelles, the Tano Bora could take down big game prey such as zebras, wildebeest, and topi antelopes, thanks to exceptional coordination and teamwork!

πŸ‘‘Complex Hierarchy:
From 2016 to 2019, Olpadan led the group, while Olarishani helped him as a co-leader. However, Winda and Leboo later began attacking Olpadan, after which an injured Olpadan slipped to the lowest position, and Olarishani and Winda became the new co-leaders.

🏞️ Beyond bounds:
The Tano Bora was exceptional not only in their size and hunting prowess but also in their territorial range. Their unusually large territory extended from the Maasai Mara Reserve to much beyond in the Tipilikwani area, even as far as the Olare Motorogi Conservancy on the other side of the Talek River!

πŸ’” From Five to Two:
Unfortunately, the Tona Bora is no more. Their decline began in January 2022 when Olpadan was likely killed by the other members, making the group Nne Bora (The Magnificent Four). The next month, Olarishani was also found dead, and by July 2022, Leboo’s carcass was found near the Talek River.

Only two members of the famed coalition remain today, so make them another reason to hop on an East African Safari! πŸŒβ€‹

Whose survival instincts will you vouch for?

πŸ¦’ Giraffes' Karate Kicks:
Watch as giraffes use their long, 6-foot legs to deliver powerful kicks, keeping lions and crocs at bay. It's nature's version of self-defense! πŸ’₯

🐘 Elephants' Fortress Strategy:
In the face of danger, elephants band together. They charge in herds, forming a formidable wall to protect their young. Safety in numbers isn't just a sayingβ€”it's their survival mantra! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ¦“ Zebras' Dazzling Defense:
Zebras' black and white stripes create "motion dazzle," confusing predators and blending seamlessly into the grasslands. Together in herds, their stripes blur, making it tough for predators to target just one zebra. βœ¨β€‹

πŸ¦” Pangolins' Armored Ball:
Pangolins roll into a tight ball of scales, akin to a natural suit of armor. Their sharp, keratin scales deter even the most persistent predatorsβ€”ouch! πŸ›‘οΈβ€‹

πŸ€ African Crested Rats' Poisonous Pretense:
These clever rats mimic porcupine quills with a toxic twist! They coat their crests with poison from the deadly poison arrow tree, a risky move for any predator that dares to approach. βš οΈβ€‹

Not literally, but their tracks might make you feel so! With three toes on each foot, their tracks look like the Ace of Clubs!♣️

Let's peel back their tough hide and discover more about them!πŸ‘‡πŸ»β€‹

🦏🦏Ever heard a crash? That's what you call a group of rhinos, and it perfectly captures the thunderous sound they make when they stampede.

😱Of course, these giants weigh weight a lot, but did you know the largest White rhinos tip the scales at an insane 3.5 tonnes! But don't let their size fool you. πŸ‘‡πŸ»β€‹

⚑They're surprisingly quick! They can sprint at an impressive 55 km/h, leaving even Usain Bolt in the dust whose top speed is 44 km/h!

😠Black rhinos have a reputation for being more short-tempered than the White rhinos. With poor eyesight, they rely heavily on smell. If something seems unfamiliar, they might charge first and ask questions later!

😒Rhinos are critically endangered due to heavy poaching. Their horns, made of keratin, are highly valued in some Asian cultures. Sadly, with all five species combined, there are just over 27,000 rhinos left in the world.

πŸ™ŒπŸ»African rhinos are more aggressive than their Asian counterparts. They fight with their horns, while Asian rhinos use their teeth.

🀝🏻Rhinos and oxpeckers are best buds. In Swahili, the oxpecker is called askari wa kifaru, which means β€œthe rhino’s guard”. These birds eat ticks off the rhinos and create commotion when it senses danger, alerting the rhino.

With their impressive size, surprising speed, and unique social behaviors, no wonder they're part of Africa's prestigious Big 5 Club. Book your safari now and don't miss your chance to see them in their natural glory!πŸ“Έ

Don't we all have friends like them who have our backs always!
Every year, 2 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebras travel 1500 across the Serengeti and Masai Mara in complete harmony.πŸƒβ€‹
Talk about travel goals! What do you think is their secret of moving without a fuss?

πŸ‘‰πŸ»They need each other to survive! Thanks to their complementary eating habits.

🌾Zebras are like lawnmowers, munching on the fresh and tall grass leaving the shoots for the picky eaters -wildebeest, who love the nectar in them. This means there’s plenty of food for everyone. πŸ‘€β€‹

πŸ‘‰Because they are each other's best bodyguards!

πŸ’―Zebras have excellent eyesight which helps them lead the way and spot threats. Wildebeests, with their keen sense of smell and hearing, sniff out water from miles away and even detect predators. Together, they're a walking security system.

πŸ‘‰ Because they're a team that nobody can defeat!

πŸ’ͺ🏻This massive herd offers safety in numbers and makes them less appealing (and even dangerous to attack) to predators. Their unique partnership ensures survival of both.

This is definitely a friendship worth witnessing, right? Psst.. This is your sign to tag your BFF squad!πŸ’ž Make this epic migration your next adventure together!!πŸ˜Žβ€‹

This is why you should definitely plan a migration safari! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Picture this: millions of wildebeest and other herbivores munching away, turning the Serengeti and Masai Mara into nature’s own freshly mowed lawn. This massive grazing party lowers the grass, making it super easy to spot those elusive cheetahs, lions, and more! πŸ†πŸ‘€

Plus, the dry season helps thin out the vegetation, giving you the perfect vantage point for some epic wildlife watching! πŸ“Έ

So, if you’ve been dreaming of a safari, the Great Migration is your golden ticket to the wildest show on Earth! ✨

What lies in the belly of the volcanic beast that is the Ngorongoro Crater?

1️⃣This is one of the world's exclusive spots to witness the Big 5!πŸ˜β€‹

2️⃣Here you can encounter endangered species, such as the Black Rhino, Wild hunting dog, and Golden Cat alongside 25,000 animals and 500 species of birds.πŸ’―β€‹

3️⃣Africa's densest lion population is right here!πŸ¦β€‹

4️⃣This crater is a cradle of life for black rhinos. Critically endangered elsewhere, conservation efforts have managed to make them a rather common sight in the crater. πŸ™ŒπŸ»β€‹

5️⃣Noticeably absent are giraffes! Their long necks make it difficult for them to ascend from the sloppy edges of the crater. πŸ˜¬β€‹

6️⃣This crater is also home to the Masai communities that have long co-existed in harmony with the wildlife. πŸ‘₯

Brace yourselves for more wild revelations about them!πŸ‘‡πŸ»

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Despite their poor hearing and sight, their sense of smell is unmatched, keeping them one step ahead in the wild!πŸ’―β€‹

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Think their hefty size slows them down? Think again! They are expert swimmers and can run up to 57km per hour!βš‘β€‹

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Lions might be their main predators, but it takes quite a few of them to take down one mighty buffalo!πŸ’ͺπŸ»β€‹

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Their population is decreasing, landing them on the Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List.πŸ˜’β€‹

Brace yourself for a jaw-dropping revelation in the final fact!😰

πŸ˜‡ Giant but gentle:
Elephants are surprisingly emotionally intelligent for their giant stature! They are deeply empathetic and can recognise and respond to others’ emotions. This ability allows them to form very close relationships within their herds and also with humans! They even mourn their dead by trumpeting or offering dirt and leaves.

πŸ‘‚πŸ»Diverse modes of communication:
Did you know elephants could communicate in more ways than one? Low decimal trumpet calls, body language, touch, and scent are just the tip of the iceberg. They can even communicate through seismic signals and detect them through their bones!

πŸ’―Elephantine memory:
What if we told you that an elephant is most likely to remember you, even years later, during your second round of safari? They are known to have a strong long-term memory which allows them to remember important locations like water sources, migration routes and feeding grounds.

πŸ”΄ Elephant crisis:
The elephant population is declining and how! Just over the past century, 90% of the wild African elephants lost their lives to the brutal ivory trade. They aren't alone in this tragedy, 50% of Asian elephants faced the same fate!

Join us for a safari of a lifetime and witness these beastly, brainy creatures yourself!
