- 5:30am: meet at international House kencom

Good morning Paragliders.

Today is a beautiful day.

I assume it is safe for me to call you a paraglider from now on.

This is from me to you, when walking today, just take little time and observe the wind, see how it sways branches and bend trees.

Did you notice that in some places the trees are actually inclined to a single direction and they are so slanty.

The wind is one of powerful source of forces nature has.

If you ask me the first time i heard about the wind then I will tell you three things.

1. I read the story of the sun and the wind competing on who is stronger and it is sad that the sun won.

2. When our roof was carried off. This happened when I was little.

3. When i defined wind in my exams, that wind is moving air.

I donot want to bore you with a whole lot of gibberish so straight on to today's lesson.

GOOD MORNING.

Indeed it is another beautiful day today, i wish you a day that will comprise of nothing but happiness.

I thought we should start off this journey a bit early today.

Yesterday was a hard day since I introduced you to new things and mostly the wind.

Well done though! I know that you read my little theory and now we understand that this is a sport specifically created to make you come to experience what it feels to fly.

Enough said already, let us cover 3 thungs today.

1. History ~ Who invented this game?

2. Paragliding Equipment ~ What thing is makes up this device?

3. Lingo ~ Speak in tongues and discern what is being said to you.

HISTORY

It got its start in the 1960's when a guy named Domina Jalbert invented some special chute called a parafoil.

It was formalized as a sport in 1978.

EQUIPMENT

The paragliding canopy may look huge in the sky but it is frameless and easily foldable into a backpack.

The harness is shaped like a seat where you rest as you glide. Sometimes it has an extra chute and an airbag for emergencies.

A radio or phone is for communication.

A GPS or GNSS is also carried for navigation.

Anyway here is a simple list of the equipments.

GOOD MORNING.

I remember the first time i wrote something about the wind was when i did a lot of poetry and all about sending the wind to whisper to my (dont laugh) personna.

But today please allow me to take you through this short theory.

WHAT IS PARAGLIDING?
It is sport in which a wide canopy resembling a parachute is attached to a person's body by a harness in order to allow them to glide through the air after jumping from or being lifted to a height.

WHO IS A PARAGLIDER?
The pilot or driver behind the paraglide, he/she is responsible for moving the paraglide on air and against the wind. 😌

THE THEORY BEHIND
The pilot sits in a harness or lies supine in a cocoon-like 'pod' suspended below a fabric wing. Wing shape is maintained by the suspension lines, the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing, and the aerodynamic forces of the air flowing over the outside.

Paragliders generate thrust to propel themselves forwards and upward by redirecting a mass of air from the apparent wind against the wind itself. This action creates turbulence and decelerates the re-directed airflow, creating a backwards force. The equal and opposite force provides thrust to the paraglider. The paraglider steals momentum from the wind by slowing it down. This process is similar to how a kitesurfer, sailboat, and glider generate a force.

Guess what, there is nothing really to fear about heights. The fear itself is an illusion that you cannot levitate. Infact if I had wings, I dont think I will use them to float other than just doing momentum. The birds must be blessed especially the eagle.
