What It Was Like Going on a Safari Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic Travel + Leisure
Here's everything you need to know about going on an African safari during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a traveler who went. By

"To control the spread of the pandemic, the Kenyan government halted all domestic and international flights in March. On July 1, domestic airlines resumed flights, and on Aug. 1, international flights were reinstituted.
The country is open to international travelers, with health and safety measures in place. President Kenyatta and the Ministry of Health require all locals and travelers to a wear mask."

Jane, from Emerging Destinations, continues her travel tale:
THE AIRPORTS
The check-in line at ATL was longer than expectedβ€”mainly because Delta didn’t have enough of a staff or positions open. There were also more people than I expected at the airport, however, the thing that was most jarring was the fact that so few stores and restaurants were open. The thought of all of those lost jobs was heartbreaking.
Delta Sky Club in Terminal E was closed, so we walked over to the Delta lounge in Terminal F. We sat outside on their terraceβ€”all the seats/tables were well-spaced. Shields up everywhere to protect their workers, etc. Lots of hand sanitising stations throughout the airport and markers on the floor for social distancing.

Landing in Nairobi was very smooth. Immigration used our QR code and they had a thermal camera for a temperature check before letting us through. People wearing masks at the airportβ€”check. Hand sanitiser for passengers to useβ€”check.

Jane, from our partner company Emerging Destinations, recently arrived in Nairobi from Atlanta. In order to share her travel experiences, Jane has put together some notes of advice. Here are her pointers for BEFORE YOU LEAVE:

Travellers need a negative COVID-19 test done within 96 hours of arrival in Kenya. Because of that timing, I decided to pay for the testβ€”because I needed a guarantee that the results would arrive before I went to the airport. Needless to say (because I’m now in Kenya) it came back negative. Woo-hoo!

The Kenya Government requires all travellers to fill out an online health form which generates a QR code to print out and use on arrival. You can keep it on your cell phone, but to play it safe,
I also printed out copies. (Delta Air Lines also gave us paperwork at the gateβ€”a paper version of the same health form I had already filled out online.)

As of the 1st January 2021, visitors must obtain a Kenya visa in advance. There were glitches on the site with resizing photos so I just decided to get our visas upon arrival in Nairobi.

Stay tuned for many more of Jane's travel tips and tricks over the next few weeks.

Our partner, Jane, from Emerging Destinations, has recently arrived in Nairobi. This is what she had to say:

ATLANTA TO NAIROBI
We did! We got here β€” Kenya! Arrived in Nairobi at midnight after the flight from Atlanta via Amsterdam. My first impression of arriving at Kenyatta International Airport is that Kenya is really cautious about COVID-19 protocols.

Stay tuned for Jane's travel tips and tricks over the next few weeks.
