Swimming for life...

A young lion cub bravely jumped into crocodile infested waters to cross to the other side where the rest of the family was patiently waiting. Although there was a decent sized croc lurking close by the youngster made it safely out of the water being reunited with its family. Got to love happy endings!

9 times out of 10 hyenas will run from lions, because lions will kill a solitary hyena on sight..
It is a rivalry built into the genes of these animals, so much so that the lions rarely eat the hyenas they kill - they just want them dead..
On the other hand, the same cannot be said for hyenas when they come across a solitary lioness..

Welcome to Bateleur Camp

Set amongst the forest at the foot of the scenic Oloololo escarpment (the rim of the Great Rift Valley) in Kenya’s iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, is the classic and elegant Bateleur Camp.

Here, amidst the reserve’s astounding year-round concentration of animals, including the seasonal Great Wildebeest Migration, guests can have an unsurpassed wildlife experience. Tongai is one of only 2,800 highly endangered Grévy Zebra between northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. Over the past 30 years, the population of Grevy’s has dropped 54%. Fabulous day at Lake Nakuru National Park...both black and white rhinos, baboons galore, zebras, Rothchild giraffes, so many wonderful birds I cannot count. Flamingos, pelicans, storks, eagles, etc. Scenery wonderful. Serena even better...massages, manicures were essential after Il Ngwesi. Il Ngwesi was so amazing in its own way. The leopards and baboons were vocalizing under the almost full moon while we slept under the stars on the deck of our Banda... Wonderfulness all.

Meeting the Maasai people and getting to know more about their life in the savannah is an integral part of the East African travel experience.
