THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW...

Whispers of sightings of the elusive black leopard have long swirled around central Kenya, and scientists have now confirmed its presence there with a series of rare images taken by camera traps.
The images were captured by researchers from the San Diego Zoo who have been studying leopards in the Loisaba wildlife conservancy, as well as an independent photographer working in the region at the same time.
"We are very excited to hear that these camera traps have captured rare footage of melanistic leopards, otherwise known as black panthers!" the conservancy said on its website.
Melanism is a genetic mutation like albinism, except it leads to a surplus in pigment that turns the fur or skin of an animal black.

Throw Back Thursday. On safari back in the year 2002. Remembering these Spanish friends as if it were yesterday. Photos had to be processed from film in dark rooms. A long winding, exciting journey of pure experience.

Making the next generation... May the young one survive the many dangers of the jungle.

The complete photo series of a giraffe giving birth in the Mara Triagle . The whole series was captured by Andreas Knausenberger. What an amazing and rare experience. She took 30 mins to give birth and the baby took approximately 30 mins to stand up. The whole giraffe family welcomes the baby, such an amazing moment to watch.

This morning a Kenyan motorist on the outskirts of Nairobi says: ‘I had only driven about 500 metres when the shapes of two big male lions could be seen in the road. ‘They went into a ridiculous pose, with their rear ends up in the air and their faces down over some buffalo dung. They were trying to mask their smell so they could hunt undetected. They both looked like they were enjoying themselves and it was an incredible start to the day.’

Flamingos, Lake Magadi

As many as four million lesser flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) live on the lakes scattered along Africa’s Great Rift Valley. The three-foot-tall (one-meter-tall) birds, the smallest of five flamingo species, live here in greater numbers than anywhere else on Earth.

Herido, pero segura fuera de peligro. Esa es la ley de la selva. Nunca se sabe cuando el león viene de nuevo

Injured but safely out of danger. That is the law of the jungle. You never know when the lion comes calling next.

WE MUST SAY NO TO POACHING IN KENYA- OUR LIFE OUR HERITAGE!!!!
Kenya wildlife service rangers are still pursuing poachers suspected to be behind the weekend killing of 12 elephants in the Tsavo east national park. The bullet-riddled carcasses were found at bisadi area of the park with all the tusks removed. Conservationists are billing this as the country’s worst poaching incident, in close to 20 ...years KTN 8 Jan 2013 23:12

We all have an urgent responsibility to fully protest against poaching! Why cant't we all stage a protest to the Ministry of Forestry and wildlife and say NO! to this nonsense?? If you're interested in this initiative like this! I'm ready to mobilize all our compatriots. I understand some very senior Cabinet Ministers are involved in the racket looking for campaign money. Imagine! I need to hear your opinion on this. JAS

What would you do if you literally ran into an elephant while walking in a forest?

Domestic Tourism has become a significant form of tourism in Kenya where it is found that it can cushion off the tourism industry during low periods of international tourist arrivals.
With the aggressive promotion of the domestic sector, local tourism business is expected to increase significantly as Kenyans disposable income gradually increases. Is it the Lions in the Mara, The elephants of Amboseli or the Boat rides and horse rides of Naivasha that you long to experience? We will get you there!
