Twitcher Tuesday! Lilac-breasted rollers are not just striking in appearance, they are also fearless hunters. If the prey is too large to swallow whole, they beat it with their wings or slam it against a rock or the ground until it is safe to eat. Our guests had the chance to witness this incredible hunting display on a recent game drive.

Twitcher Tuesday! The Pearl-spotted Owlet is one of the smallest owls in Africa, measuring just 17-21cm and weighing around 76g. Despite their size, they are bold hunters, preying on insects, bats, and small rodents and reptiles.

The Pearl-spotted Owlet is especially fascinating as it is one of the few owl species you can spot during the daytime. So, next time you’re on a game drive, keep your eyes peeled!

Twitcher Tuesday: The Malachite Kingfisher.

A flash of vibrant colour, the Malachite Kingfisher is often spotted along rivers, lakes and wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa. There’s nothing quite like watching a Malachite Kingfisher hunt. These tiny birds can be seen scanning the water for prey. Once spotted, they execute a swift dive, disappearing beneath the surface for just a moment before emerging with a catch in their bill.

Whether near or far, the resonant roar of lions is an unforgettable wilderness experience. Recently, three young males, known as the Sala Boys, made a buffalo kill, drawing the attention of nearby hyenas. Overnight this scuffle piqued the curiosity of two males from the Ridge Pride. The Largest Land Mammal Migration on Earth!

Did you know that South Sudan host the largest land mammal migration on EARTH?! The spectacular phenomenon of millions of antelope migrating across South Sudan has been revealed during the country’s first comprehensive aerial wildlife survey of the Great Nile Migration, encompassing @boma_badingilo_southsudan national parks and stretching to the White Nile. Each year, in an unmatched wildlife spectacle, approximately SIX MILLION of white-eared kob, Mongalla gazelle, tiang and Bohor reedbuck move across this landscape and into Gambella National Park in Ethiopia. The survey was conducted by @africanparksnetwork in partnership with the South Sudanese Ministry of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism, with support from @greatspineofafrica (The Wilderness Project). Covering 122,774 km2, the findings confirm a remarkable and unmatched wildlife phenomenon across a landscape of immense ecological importance.
