The Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers is a representative body that brings together duly registered hotels, camps and lodges in Kenya. The association is actively engaged with its membership and other bodies and association both in the public and private sector in not only advancing the tourism agenda, but also in heralding the adoption and implementation of quality service delivery standards and building of innovative hospitality products for our visitors.

The panel discussion on key competitive drivers, focusing on logistics and infrastructure, the cost and availability of utilities, and labor productivity, is ongoing. The discussions seek to reform Kenya’s business environment by addressing these drivers to foster sustainable economic growth and position Kenya as a globally competitive economy. This will then be followed by a plenary where participants from both sides will collectively discuss and query the issues raised in the panel to explore solutions and the best way forward.

On the panel chaired by KEPSA Vice Chairperson Ms. Brenda Mbathi are private sector representatives Mr. Auni Bhaiji - Regional Director, External Affairs, Development & Operations, Africa Global Logistics; Mr. Rajan Shah - Immediate Past Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers; Mr. Macharia Muthondu - 1st National Vice President of the Federation of Kenya Employers; Ms. Agatha Thuo - CEO of ASNET; and Mr. George Aluru - Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Sector Board.

The National Assembly is represented by Hon. James Gakuya Mwangi, MP - Chairperson, Trade & Industry Departmental Committee; Hon. Vincent Musyoka, MP - Chairperson, Energy Departmental Committee; Hon (CPA) Francis Kuria Kimani, MP - Chairperson, Finance & National Planning Departmental Committee; and Hon. John Mutunga Kanyuithia, MP - Chairperson, Agriculture & Livestock Departmental Committee.

Earlier yesterday, we met with CS Labour Dr. Alfred Mutua to discuss issues related to the Labour Sector. The PS Labour, Hon Mwadime was present. Our team was led by the FKE National President, Dr Gilda Odera, the FKE CEO Jacqueline Mugo and Mike Macharia (FKE National Vice President). We discussed the high cost of doing business due to the introduction of multiple levies and taxes, the setting up of wages council's and alignment to best practices under the ILO. The CS is very keen to advance the sector.

CEO Mike Macharia was a panelist at the KCB Power Talks Series themed "Redefining The Future of Tourism and Hospitality". The session was hosted by KCB CEO Paul Russo and his team. The Chief Guest was Tourism PS John Olooltua. Narok Governor Ole Ntutu made some remarks as well. The panel was KTB CEO, June Chepkemei, Mara Conservancy's Brian Heath and Ole Sereni and Emara's Bobby Jandu. A very good number of KAHC members were present including Ashnil Hotels, Sarova Hotels, Tribe and Trademark, Ole Sereni, Eka and Ol Tukai amongst others.
