IL Moran is widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara. Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, are just 10 tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River. You’ll be the personal guest of our manager, who’ll look after all your needs. The camp is situated along the banks of the Mara River, right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with the best game viewing right on your doorstep. Governors Il Moran Camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating by Eco Tourism Kenya for our environmental practices both in camp and with our neighbourng community.

Governors’ Il Moran - Our Story

For over 40 years Governors’ has been pioneering safaris, setting the standard for the classic African safari experience. Today, the Governors’ Camp Collection comprises 7 award winning luxury safari camps and lodges. We are in the heart of the best wildlife viewing areas of Kenya and Rwanda, set in some of East Africa’s most spectacular scenery - therefore it comes as no surprise that landmark series such as BBC Earth’s ‘Dynasties’ and Animal Planet’s ‘Big Cat Tales’ are filmed right on our doorstep! Governors’ Il Moran is for those who want that extra bit of luxury. We’ve this camp small and intimate, with added touches that place this camp at the top of the safari accommodation range. Il Moran is widely regarded as the premiere camp in the Masai Mara, with the best game viewing right on your doorstep. You’ll be the personal guest of our manager who will look after all your needs.

Hidden under ancient trees deep in the forest, are just ten tents which line the winding banks of the Mara River. Dark chunky wooden tables contrast with oversized blue couches and a central, colourfully beaded chandelier, while tribal portraits and African artefacts are dotted around. Meals are served on the raised wooden decking of the main mess and dining tent which offers a birds eye view of the snorting hippos below. The main feature is a sunken fire pit which is lit in the evenings – the perfect spot to sit back with a cocktail of your choice.

Il Moran is small and peaceful – the ideal camp for honeymooners and couples who are looking for a very special safari experience, or even families with older children. This camp has been awarded a Silver Eco Rating by Eco-Tourism Kenya for our sustainable tourism practices in place.
