Please all sign and share - big tusker elephants are being killed by trophy hunters when crossing the border from Amboseli to Tanzania.

We are losing beloved elephants and important genes which are supposed to spread. These bulls are in their prime!

These elephants are used to cars so it is just shoot from a vehicle and kill.

African Elephants may use names for each other
In a recent pre-print publication, researchers in Samburu and Amboseli found that Elephants seem to use very specific vocalisations when addressing each individual, and that individuals respond uniquely to those vocalisations. This is basically the equivalent of a human name, an individual identity vocalised and recognised.
Note that this has been submitted for peer-review, but hasn't yet been published in a journal, though with the calibre of those involved, we can be fairly sure this'll be published eventually.

There's a link to the pre-print PDF at the end of the article for those who are interested.

The elephants seem to address each other with individual vocal labels, and not by simply copying each other’s calls.
