It is always wonderful to go to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Namunyak Conserancy in northern Kenya. It’s amazing to get these close up views of the orphans that were rescued from the surrounding areas such as this young reticulated giraffe. .e.s.c.u.e

Amazing lion sightings here in the Mara. It’s great to see these big cats from cute young cubs to magnificent large males doing so well and allowing us such great viewings.

The past two weeks have been so full of adventure and wildlife that I have been too busy to post! Luckily Ollie is now here to help out! I am so proud of how hard he is working on his skills and knowledge in natural history, ecology, and geography. We are now in our beloved Kitirua Conservancy for a few days, enjoying the spectacular sundowners and views of Mount Kilimanjaro, alongside the elephants and other wildlife that make this special landscape their home.

We kicked off the safari season in style in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, in Uganda. Here, in the pearl of Africa, we trekked to the mountain gorillas and then relaxed in the lovely Gorilla Forest Camp. Some very sad news from the Mara today - Kisaru the cheetah was killed by lions down in the reserve. We were so incredibly fortunate to spend so much time with her and the litter of 6 cubs she had and raised near our home several years ago. This is the last time we saw her, and the last picture we took of her, just over a year ago.

So glad to be back in Shela. A small Swahili town on Lamu island on the Kenyan coast. The mixing of different cultures can be seen all around the island which makes for a very special place to visit.

As these two cheetah brothers sat under a balanites tree a herd of elephants came past. This mama and her calf stopped by to stare them down. In the end the mama elephant decide they were no threat and carried on her way.

We were fortunate to see these two magnificent male lions at sunset just as they were waking up to go and patrol their territory looking out for other encroaching males.

In Olchoro conservancy we where privileged to see this bull elephant with such impressive tusks. Elephants with tusks like this are getting rarer to see.

We where having our picnic breakfast when we saw this female leopard hunt down a Thompson’s gazelle. A hyena quickly appeared, so the leopard bolted up the nearest tree with the kill. We spent the rest of the morning watching her finish her breakfast in the tree just above us - what an amazing start to the day!

The rains have made the Mara Triangle lush with new green vegetation, perfect for the gazelles that these cheetahs like to hunt. We are fortunate to be here for an entire week, and so far have seen all the big cats each day we have been here.

Fabulous hyena action at dawn in a dry and dusty Kitirua Conservancy this morning. There is just nothing better than waking up in our private camp, enjoying a quick cup of Kenyan tea, and then heading out to see what everybody got up to overnight! safari

Thrilled to be back amongst the mountain gorillas for two days! Hiking to these incredible beings and spending an hour with them is without a doubt one of the best safari experiences on the planet. Rwanda is doing such a fantastic job managing tourism here, and I come back every chance I get.

What a beautiful table set for a fabulous lunch in Laikipia! I just love bringing my guests here, where the wildlife viewings and the food are both excellent. Time for a nap by the pool before we go out to spend some time with the rhinos on here.

We have been at Sasaab Lodge for the past couple of days, and experienced the first real rain storm of the year, giving hope that this horrendous drought will soon break. Sasaab is a lovely little oasis in Samburu, and such a pretty spot to get over jet lag and relax into safari.

Back in the Maasai Mara and we have been inundated with lions! They seem to be everywhere, and we saw more than 30 different individuals in the first 24 hours.
