☘️LOOKOUT. Giraffes use their long necks to help keep a lookout for predators. Their eyes are higher up and so better able to spot any approaching predators on the wide, open grasslands. Prowling predators can easily disguise themselves in thick forests, so the flat land is better for giraffes.

🍀 It is better to be a lion for a day than a sheep all your life.

Males lions are the most likely to cuddle each other, usually in the form of head rubbing. Females, on the other hand, licked both males and other females, especially cubs, likely as a maternal habit or to clean other members of the pride.

Lions nuzzle their pride members not just to look cute, but also to strengthen social bonds, according to a new study of this adorable behavior.

Of course, some believe that animals have been talking the whole time—we’re just only starting to hear them. Thanks to some new research and understanding, human/animal relations may be changing, so while we may ask “will animals ever speak?,” a better question might be “will we ever listen?"

🌋Virunga National Park. inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, covers 600,000 hectares (1.5 million acres) of tropical rainforest that is notably home to the world’s biggest population of eastern lowland gorillas.

When The Congo’s Mount Nyiragongo erupted Saturday night (May 22), sending thousands of people fleeing across the border into Rwanda and filling the skies with orange-red smoke both people and animals were in serious danger.

It has now been confirmed that gorillas in the Virunga National Park were not threatened by the eruption.

Nyiragongo's last eruption in 2002 killed 250 people and left 120,000 homeless. It is one of the world's most active volcanoes and is considered among the most dangerous.

Despite their reputation as destructive forces, volcanoes actually were critical to the development of life on Earth. Without volcanoes, most of Earth's water would still be trapped in the crust and mantle. Early volcanic eruptions led to the Earth's second atmosphere, which led to Earth's modern atmosphere. Besides water and air, volcanoes are responsible for land, another necessity for many life forms.
