Don’t worry!?
…I’d like to take a moment if I may to steer our attention away from the sensationalism that is our news today and direct it towards something more understated. The video I just shared is of a family of Baya weaver birds who live right across from our window. These endearing passerines often show up at the break of dawn to peck their little brains out on the window and they will pound away furiously before they give up and return later for a rematch with their reflection, but that’s beside the point.
Since we have become rather fond of them we usually drop some rice or mukuro (pardon my Kikuyu) on the window seal just to keep them coming. So the other day while I was watching them feed each other I couldn’t help but appreciate God’s goodness as our benevolent provider. After all did Jesus (the Son of Man) not say that we should look at the birds of the air that do not sow or reap or store away in barns, (which is true juu sijawahi ona moja wao akibeba gunia) and yet our heavenly Father feeds them. And are we not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:26-27). Yes I know that as much as He does feed the birds of the air He rarely if ever throws the food in their nests, but whatever the case the real subject in this lesson is not the bird’s faith but God’s faithfulness. Unlike most of Jesus’ other teachings this was not a parable, which for the most part need further exposition, this was an instruction in every sense of the word.
So as things remain uncertain about what will happen tomorrow or the day after and so on, we have been adjured not to worry (Philippians 4:6). Think about it, today was the tomorrow you were worrying about yesterday. So we can only live a day at time, as the just are required to walk by faith a step at a time. I believe the God who we cannot please without faith( Hebrews 11:6) will not only reward us for our faith but will also condemn us for our unbelief (Romans 14:23). Jesus never did guarantee His believers an easy living but He did however promise us a better life, and faith is His way through one and to the other. (Romans 1:17)
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. (Philippians 4: 8)
