Chapter Two of mummy’s life in Kenya.

…….. This at the time, meant very little to me, but to my aunt, it was all systems go - a trip not to be passed over. Super excited by this new arrival πŸ₯° for .unlimited

People always ask why I am always on the hunt for horses. It’s not just any old horse I look for. There’s so much that goes into it especially in Africa where there are so few horses. Great horses don’t come along easily and they age quickly. If only they had a longer life span. It’s a long process to find these fabulous horses and to train them for the job that we do.

We have some of the best riders in the world coming on safari with us. They deserve to have a fantastic horse for their holiday. It’s a long way for most and a trip of a life time. I wouldn’t want to travel all this way to ride something I wasn’t happy on. It ruins your holiday.

Thank you SAFARIS UNLIMITED (AFRICA) aka Gordie Church and all our team in the background Mo Behr Grace Wambui for making these dreams come true we have truly have an epic string of horses. πŸŽπŸ‡πŸ»

When this is your tribe, you can but not help smile. Feel incredibly lucky to be part of this mad bunch. Tyga now 7 and Thego now 4. Gordie and I, well a few more lines added to our faces as we journey through this incredible yet at times challenging life under the hot African sun on the equator. So grateful for all that we have and our special life style on safari.

A lot has been going on in the Church family. We took a three week break from safaris to rest the crew, horses and to put our little bush baby Tyga into Pembroke School. A fabulous hog warts type of school.

A huge achievement for her having never really gone to any school consistently. She will eventually come home on alternate weekends. She has made us and the crew so proud.

I know most of you won’t recognize her with brushed hair and with shoes on!!

We thought as so many of our guests become part of our family you would enjoy this update.

As we say in Africa, a special matriarch has fallen.

An extraordinary women whose dedication to her people and countries’s is unparalleled. A role model to all of us.
May you now be at peace and reunited with loved ones. Our condolences to the Royal Family, at this incredibly sad time.

I particularly love this article written in Tatler on all her Majesty’s favourite horses.

https://www.tatler.com/article/queens-13-favourite-horses-revealed-horse-and-hound

The Queen’s horses

According to the Times, Horse & Hound had not actually planned to ask the Queen to list her favourite horses. The editor-in-chief of the magazine was talking to Mr Pendry and Mr Warren for a feature about seven horses from the seven decades of her reign, to be chosen by Horse & Hound. They then got back to the magazine and said: β€˜Oh, actually the Queen wants to choose these ones herself.’ It reportedly came as quite a surprise.

Betsy
A black-brown mare that Her Majesty used to ride in the 1960s. β€˜Betsy was full of character and spirit and much loved by The Queen,’ wrote head groom Terry Pendry.

Burmese
Burmese was presented to the Queen in 1969 by The Royal Canadian Mounted police, the Queen rode her in Trooping the Colour for 18 years.

Doublet
Bred as a polo pony, Doublet was passed on to Princess Anne and went on to be the horse with which she would win the European Eventing Championships at Burghley in 1971.

Columbus
As mentioned above, Columbus, sired by Winston Churchill’s stallion, went on to win Badminton in 1974 with Princess Anne’s ex-husband Captain Mark Phillips.

Sanction
β€˜Sanction was almost telepathic and had a very strong bond with Her Majesty [...] Sanction was the last home-bred horse that Her Majesty rode before making the decision to start riding native ponies. A little closer to the ground, so to speak,’ Mr Pendry wrote in Horse & Hound.

Balmoral Jingle and Balmoral Curlew
Two Highland ponies that achieved great success in the show ring and went on to become broodmares at the Balmoral stud.

Emma
A fell pony that β€˜has been a wonderful servant to Her Majesty and is still going strong at the age of 24,’ Mr Pendry wrote.

The Queen’s top five racehorses
Aureole
Bred by the Queen’s father, Aureole was a hugely successful horse. She won seven races including the Coronation Cup and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, and came second in the Derby.

Doutelle
This chestnut stallion was the first top-class horse owned by the Queen in her own right, going on to win many races.

Highclere
Won both the 1000 Guineas and the Prix de Diane in Paris before an ecstatic Parisian crowd who chanted β€˜Vive La Reine’ John Warren wrote.

Phantom Gold
'This remarkable mare will inevitably continue to be at the core of the Royal Studs' broodmare band for future generations to enjoy and nurture,' writes Mr Warren. Phantom Gold is the great granddaughter of The Queen's superb broodmare Amicable.

Estimate
The bay filly won the Ascot Gold Cup at the Royal meeting as a four-year-old. 'No reigning monarch had won the Gold Cup and it gave Her Majesty great pleasure in achieving an ambition to breed such a great horse of true stamina and grit,' John Warren wrote in Horse & Hound.

Sometimes in life one meets an individual, whose character and life dreams are truly irrepressible, possibly bewitched, mischievous, imperishable and without any doubt, unquenchable (from lunchtime onwards). Our guests, Felicia and I, recently returned from the most enchanting riding holiday with bimbling through the Sierra Morena (Andalucia) of Spain. My horse Taranto, had the most beautiful action and not short of spirit. Each night we bedded down in magical and ancient homes from another era.

Riding in Spain.

A totally different feel on one’s senses to Africa. Flowers for miles. Fields of poppy’s. Delicious food. Iberian pork. Reunited with friends. Fun horses. Beautiful houses and a history past. Time to think, reflect and fill one’s heart with how lucky are we to live in this glorious and different world with each country having its own specialities.

We shall definately be going back and more photos to follow.

Today Gordie and I dust off our passports and head out to Seville, Spain to join our guests from Colorado on an adventure through the Sierra Morena Mountains with and we can not wait.

A wild and unexplored region of northern Andalucia which borders with Extremadura, is an area of magnificent landscapes light years away from the overpopulated coastlines and hoards of tourists wandering its famous cities.

We will ride through mountains, forge rivers, and follow ancient bridleways through spiky oak and cork forests, as well as open meadows thickly clotted with wildflowers and bursting with abundant wildlife, before sleeping under the stars. This is a magical and romantic country that has managed to escape the ravages of developers.

A fun filled weekend at a small local show. Taking Tyga and Thego with their very special ponies. New horses Quicksilver and Astro came along for an outing and to do flat work lessons. All went superbly. Not forgetting our wonderful staff who looked after small two legged and four legged with such dedication.
