📌SWEET, ADDICTIVE AND INTOXICATING🌿

Lure them with sweetness, and intoxicate them with addiction. That's the essence of the Venus flytrap’s feeding strategy.

Native to the United States East Coast, the flowering plant is renowned for its carnivorous feeding habits. It lures prey with its sweet-tasting nectar, enticing beetles, ants, flies, and spiders to linger around or return repeatedly.

The nectar contains chemical compounds that create an addiction-like effect, compelling prey to continue feeding.

As they consume the nectar, they become less alert and cautious, leading them to brush against the trigger hairs within the trap, which then snaps the lobes shut, capturing them.

Interestingly, the trap’s trigger hairs are located in the lobes, and prey with a "sound mind" wouldn’t trigger them unless intoxicated by the nectar.

The concentration and viscosity of the nectar may cause insects to lose precision in their movements, increasing the likelihood of contact with the sensitive trigger hairs that activate the trap.

📌STEP INTO THE WILD🌿

A walk at Nairobi National Park’s Hippo Pools trail offers an extraordinary opportunity to connect with the wild.

Our journey began with an engaging talk at the display section, where fascinating insights into the anatomy and adaptations of different species were shared while examining the impressive skulls of wild animals, setting the tone for a day filled with discovery.

Following the winding trail along the Mbagathi river, we stumbled upon our first thrilling encounter, a Nile monitor lizard, basking lazily, its body perfectly camouflaged that if not for sharp eyes, we would have easily missed it.

Nearby, a striated heron perched intently on a slender stem, its piercing gaze locked onto the water below, timing its next strike.
Further along the riverbank, a Nile crocodile rests in serene stillness, and not far ahead, another crocodile feasts on the carcass of an impala, adding a touch of raw nature to our adventure.

The trail's surprises continue with the sighting of serrated-hinged terrapins basking leisurely on a partially submerged trunk. Then, in a flash, a black-headed heron flies into the scene and perches gracefully on a fever tree nearby.

The walk concluded with a delightful sight of two terrapins busking on a fallen trunk, perfectly content in their tranquil riverine home.

📌DON’T FIGHT IT, SURRENDER THE FOOD❗️

When visiting wildlife areas, it's crucial to exercise caution if a baboon approaches or attempts to sn**ch your food. Do not struggle or try to fight it off. Baboons are much stronger and more agile than many people realize.

Equipped with powerful jaws and sharp canine teeth, they can defend themselves if threatened. Their physical strength, speed, climbing, and jumping abilities, give them a clear advantage in any confrontation with humans.

Resisting a baboon puts you at serious risk of injury. If confronted, the safest action is to calmly surrender your food. Place it on the ground or allow the baboon to take it, then move away without making sudden movements.

This approach minimizes the risk of escalation and ensures safety for you and the primate.

Remember, baboons act on instinct and are primarily driven by the opportunity to access food🐒
