Day Hike: Dragon's Teeth - Lesatima 🥾

Itinerary👇

Get ready to rock the 16km hike up to the Summit of Mt. Lesatima and back using the Shamata gate, in Nyandarua county. This trail is categorized as challenging in terms of difficulty, and normally takes 6-8 hours to complete.

It has a maximum elevation gain of 2083 ft with stunning views making it a perfect spot for hiking and camping. You will likely find other hikers on the route while out exploring.
Mt. Lesatima, located on the Northern side of the Aberdare ranges and rising to an altitude of 4,001m (13,126ft) above sea level is the highest point in the Aberdares and third highest peak in Kenya. Though categorized as 'difficulty', the trail seems easy (not overly difficult) and scenic but you will be hardened by the altitude as you push to the peak.

The 8km trek from the Shamata gate towards Satima summit will take 3-4 hrs with moderate walking pace. The whole trail to the summit and back is approximately 16kms and will take 6-8hrs to cover. The first two kilometers will take you through scenic fields of lush alpine vegetation and scrubland known as the 'Hiker's Paradise'. The trek finally emerges on the moorland as you walk past protruded, imposing countless rows of rock formations known as the 'Dragon's Teeth'. The trail runs through these magnificent rock formations to the Peak of Mt. Lesatima.

On your way up you're likely to spot a few wild animals like Zebras, Waterbucks and Warthogs. On a clear day, you will be able to see Mt. Kenya from the summit.
It's recommended that you start your hike early as there's no shade cover throughout the trail. It always rains in the afternoons at the Aberdares, so it's highly advisable to carry rain gear and waterproof hiking boots as the path gets swampy at times. It's likely to be a bit cold at the summit, so pack a scarf and gloves.

Beyond the legendary tales of The Masai Mara: Bibiki explores Beyond the wild, vast Savannah!

The Chinese have a proverb that says "The journey is the reward." -
And true to those words we ventured deep inside the vast wilderness of The legendary Masai Mara on an epic safari expedition, a truly magical adventure of a lifetime. We started our expedition with an overnight stay at Boma Noma, a luxurious lodge with a Maasai-themed African touch located few kilometers from the park. Boma Noma has a perfect romantic-feel bar build under a life tree. The next day, we set off on an extensive game drive in search of the folklore King of the jungle and the massive elephants with their majestic tasks and wide ears. In the end we saw an incredible variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, Buffaloes, and many more.

One of the highlights of our trip was camping at Manyatta camping site. We set up our tents under the stars and enjoyed drinks and stories over a bonfire, the perfect way to end a perfect day in the Masai Mara.
