Karibu Kenya Accommodation Guide, the new comprehensive guidebook to Kenya, was launched in Kenya in February 2013. The

guidebook has detailed information on over 850 camps, lodges, hotels, resorts and bandas all over the country. The Kenya Tourist Board (KTB), the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) and the Kenya Professional Safari Guide Association (KPSGA) have all endorsed Karibu Kenya Accommodation Guide. The introduction covers the history, geography, climate, peoples, attractions and annual cultural festivals of Kenya, as well as the country’s infrastructure, banking, communications, transport and medical facilities. It highlights responsible tourism and the wildlife code, and gives information on the Kenyan associations that regulate and certify tourist facilities. Each chapter focuses on a region, starting with a photograph and a summary of what the region comprises, including information on where to go and what to do there. It gives information on the region’s national parks, reserves and conservancies, and the activities and facilities on offer in each. The maps of the regions detail, not only the geographical features and main roads, but also where every accommodation facility listed in the book is situated. A photo illustrates each camp, lodge, hotel, resort and banda. Information is given on how to book with the hotel directly, its website, location, rates, nearest airstrip and payment options. A 200-word write up about every hotel is followed by icons detailing what each place offers, including safari activities, water sports, dining option, eco-certification, community development projects, hotel amenities and services. Professional photographs from around Kenya enhance the book, showing the highlights of each region. The guidebook is colour-coded by region and has a fully inclusive index, making it clear and easy to use. The author, Tamara Britten, spent two years travelling around Kenya, collecting information about what each region of the country offers, and researching and writing about the accommodation facilities available in each. Tamara has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia (UEA). Her written work has won the Curtis Brown Award for Prose Fiction, attained second place in the Yeovil Short Story Competition and been shortlisted for the Hookline Novel Competition. Tamara has managed safari camps and mobile tented safaris in both Kenya and Namibia. Munich Design formatted and designed the guidebook. Sokomoto Images, Andrew Nightingale and Yellow Wings Aviation all contributed photographs. Karibu Kenya Accommodation Guide is available direct from the author. For orders, or further information, please email: [email protected]

The guidebook is available in Nairobi at all Text Book Centre outlets, Bookstop at Yaya Centre, Westlands Sundries at Village Market, Savani's at Westgate, Pal's at Diamond Plaza, Muthaiga Travel at Fairview Hotel, Danielle's Hair Design at Muthaiga Shopping Centre and Karen Provision Store, the Souk, House of Treasures and Marula Studios in Karen. It is available at the coast at WaterLovers in Diani, Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Paper Connections in Nyali and Ocean Sports in Watamu. Karibu Kenya Accommodation Guide is available online at Amazon UK

While we observe this special day dedicated to our planet’s biodiversity, we at Karibu Kenya and Exclusive Ethiopia are proud to align our holidays with responsible tourism. This year’s theme, “Investing in People and Planet,” resonates with our goal to create memorable and adventurous experiences for our clients while ensuring that tourism benefits both people and the environment.

When you travel with us, you can rest assured that your journey supports sustainable practices and meaningful conservation efforts:

🌳 Carbon Offsetting: We offset the carbon emissions from all domestic flights and road transfers for our clients through Stand For Trees, they protect forests worldwide and prevent carbon emissions in critical areas.

🐘 Wildlife Conservation: Every trip with Karibu Kenya helps safeguard the Rukinga Conservancy, an elephant migration corridor between Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks in Kenya. This project not only protects wildlife but also supports local communities.

🧵 Eco-Friendly Practices: Our staff uniforms, including shirts, t-shirts, and yoga tops, are produced by Wildlife Works Apparel eco-factory, which prioritizes sustainable manufacturing processes.

👥 Community and Ecosystem Support: Through the Wildlife Works Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project, we offset the carbon footprints of all our clients, ensuring that your travels contribute to forest conservation and community development.

As a member of ECOTOURISM KENYA, we adhere to their charter, which requires all members to be conscious of the natural and cultural environments in which they operate. This commitment guides everything we do, from planning personalized holiday packages to implementing eco-friendly practices on the ground.

Explore Kakamega Forest, the last remnant of the ancient Guineo-Congolian Rainforest that once stretched across Africa. This lush, green paradise is home to incredible species found nowhere else. With its ever-changing beauty, the rainforest is a destination that deserves multiple visits—each one promising new surprises and unforgettable experiences.

Originally spanning from the Atlantic Ocean through Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, and Kenya, this equatorial rainforest is a true natural wonder.

🌳 380 plant species, including 60 species of ferns and 150 species of trees and shrubs.
🌼 170 flowering plants, with 60 orchids—9 endemic to the forest.
💧 Serene waterfalls and scenic lookouts that offer breathtaking views.

Kakamega is home to rare creatures with curious shapes, bizarre features, and picturesque names. Spot the potto, a small nocturnal primate with huge eyes and opposable thumbs for climbing. Encounter the delightfully named giant forest hedgehog, hammer-headed fruit bat, clawless otter, and De Brazza’s monkey. The forest is also home to elusive cat species like the civet, genet, and serval—though their dappled coats make them masters of camouflage in the speckled undergrowth.

Did you know? Kenya has a population of about 55 million people, of which almost 4.5 million reside in Nairobi. While the categorization of tribes is debated, it’s generally estimated that there are 42. Although each tribe possesses its own language, there are three primary linguistic groups.

The Bantu-speaking tribes constitute the most populous group and inhabit the lush southern region of the country. The Nilotic-speaking tribes, residing in the western part of the country, and the Cush*tic-speaking tribes, many of which are nomadic, dwell in the arid northeast.

There are three other racial groups with Kenyan nationality. Kenyan Arabs primarily descend from Yemeni, Omani, and Persian traders who established early trading posts on the Kenyan coast. Kenyan Asians are predominantly descended from Indian laborers brought to Kenya by the British to construct the railway. Kenyans of British origin primarily descend from the British who arrived during the Colonial Administration and acquired Kenyan nationality at independence.

Happy New Year from all of us at Karibu Kenya. 🎊🎆

Looking for ideas for your 2025 travels?

Look no further than the Maasai Mara, perhaps best known for hosting Africa’s most spectacular wildlife event, the Great Migration. Every year, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, along with zebra, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle, impala, eland, topi, and nomadic carnivores, flood north into the Mara from June to August before sweeping back into the Serengeti in September and October. Witness the breathtaking beauty of the Mara, where endless plains meet the vast African sky. ☀️🦁🦓🐘
