Depart Nairobi for Amboseli National Park which lies at the floors of Mount Kilimanjaro.It offers scenic backgrounds for photography,The big five;Elephants,Lions,Cheetah,Buffalo,Zebra etc and plain game as well at the swamp area.

A few weeks ago, our rhino patrol team witnessed an intense fight between two southern white rhino bulls.

Once it was over, there was a clear loser - eleven-year-old Jayjay who had suffered multiple lacerations and penetrative wounds from the other bull's horn, and it was evident that he would struggle in his day-to-day life.

The rangers alerted our veterinarian and Kenya Wildlife Service, and after observing the rhino, it was decided an intervention was needed to treat the wounds.

The team determined the cause of the fight to be the diminished pasture, due to the drought, Jayjay had travelled a long distance from his usual territory in search of food leading him to another bull's home.

"Declining pasture and resources like water has greatly impacted grazer populations like southern white rhinos. More and more, we are observing fights among this species that are otherwise known to be very social," says Samuel Mutisya, our Head of Conservation. "

We are happy to report that Jayjay is doing well after the treatment, and thanks to the recent rains can find some grass around his own territory. 💚
