Today is a very special day for us
It's INTERNATIONAL ZEBRA DAYπ¦π¦π¦
We know that this animal is very loved, in Africa and around the world.
Impossible not to!
Well, there are very interesting things about them that you would be surprised to know π
So in tribute to this emblematic animal, here are a few fun facts about zebras:
βοΈ Did you know that zebras can fall in love with donkeys?
Yes, you read correctly, the donkey is a close relative of the zebra, and both belong to the equine family. They can live together, and as they say, touch makes love... Zonkey (or zedonk, depending on who is the male) is the result of the crossing of these two animals π¦
βοΈ If I tell you to think about something that we have in common with zebras, what do you think it is?
Well, you probably don't think that the striped pattern that covers their bodies is the common ground, but even though we aren't that pretty, their pattern works like the fingerprints on our hands, since each zebra has its own unique pattern.
βοΈZebras sleep standing up π΄
It's also true!
As a rule, zebras sleep standing up during the day and lying down at night.
Sleeping standing up during the day allows them to be alert in case of danger, on the other hand, sleeping lying down helps them achieve deeper and more efficient sleep, that is, reaching the REM phase.
Many of us would love to be able to sleep standing upπ
And the million dollar question, in honor of our dear Zebra Marty, from the Madagascar movieβ¦
Are zebras black with white stripes, or white with black stripes?
Well, despite what it may seem, the skin of zebras has only one color: BLACK.
And the reason must be sought in embryology. It turns out that zebra embryos are full of melanin, which they lose as pregnancy development progresses. If we shave a zebra completely, we will see that it is black.
We love these animals, I hope we can enjoy them for many yearsπ¦π€
