Nairobi National Park has the highest number of black Rhinos

This Park has the highest density of black rhinos in the country. During your game drive, you will not miss spotting the rhino.

The park is a rhino sanctuary with 76 indigenous black rhinos and 13 white rhinos. These endangered rhinos are transferred here for their own protection from poachers.

Can you tell the difference between a black rhino and a white rhino? Here’s how to tell them apart, the black rhinos are bush-browsers and carry their heads high.

They have a triangular mouth and hooked upper lip that changed from stripping leaves and thorns off bushes and low-growing trees.

The white rhino on the other hand got their name from a misnomer.

The name white is a mispronunciation of the Dutch word wide. This is in reference to the square upper lip of the white rhino.

They are grass grazers, have longer necks and their heads are bigger, pitched downward towards the ground.

Have you visited the Nairobi national park?

How many animals can you name in the park?

Do you know how you can get to visit the park?

How amazing it is that we have a whole wildlife park in our city with lions and rhinos and so many other magnificent animal and birdlife roaming free,a true testament to our heritage.

Nairobi national park is just 7km from the city centre and hosts a variety of wildlife animals where you can get to see 4 of the big 5. Even though there are no elephants within the park there is the where orphaned baby elephants are taken care of and is always worth a visit to support this worthwhile cause and if you are lucky you get to adopt one of the young ones and help them get the care they need.
is the first park to have been opened in Kenya and offers such a diversity in wildlife such a short distance from the city centre.
It's great for anyone in Nairobi looking for some sightseeing on their layover or maybe after a conference in the city before heading back home. Weekend trips are also great for the family and I remember taking several school trips to tour the park.

I can't talk about the park without mentioning the with over 500 species of birds this would be an excellent place for birdlovers and watchers.

Fun fact: did you know that the park is only fenced on 3 sides and is open for migratory herbivores on to the kitengela plains and birds going down to the kapiti plains?

There are exciting places to stay within the park and I will be touching on those in out next posts.

Meeting Julie from the The Backyard Coffee Lounge in September 2021 together with made me realize the power of a vision and building it brick by brick everyday. It's not going to be glamourous in the beginning but totally worth it in the end

Julie's story was covered in the dailies I think Business daily same year. She brought to life her restaurant by saving money that she got from selling cakes from the boot of her car!

Alittle information about the hotel:
The Lodge has 96 unique rooms, all elevated on stilts and built across two levels, with ensuite bathrooms with permanent showers and WC, and running hot and cold water. You can be accommodated in these rooms at three levels with double, twin or triple beds depending on your preferred occupancy
Salt Lick Safari Lodge is a luxurious safari escape set in the heart of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary overlooking a waterhole and the vast Tsavo plains. The watering hole is visited daily by a great deal of wildlife looking to quench their thirst from the unforgiving sun. You can enjoy amazing views from the deck at the reception area where elephants get so close you can actually touch them to the tunnel that runs all the way to the watering hole and you can watch them up close. Also the hanging walkways that connect the rooms provide great opportunities to view the surrounding landscape and the sunsets over the plains.
Important to note, kids under 5 are not allowed at the saltlick lodge because of safety. So if you want to plan a trip there and you have small kids, make arrangements for them as well.

📍 Sights from a family game drive today at Nairobi national park 🦁🐃🦏

A game drive at the Nairobi National Park might just be the break needed from the jungle that is Nairobi.

Start your game drive as early as 7am to get the most out of it.

Carry your own food and chill at the picnic site before exiting the park.

Current park fees for resident adults is Kshs. 430, Kids Kshs. 215 & Non resident fees is USD 43.

Incase your non resident friends tag along best thing is to pay the park fees in USD in the KWS bank account. It's cheaper that way, the alternative is to convert at the prevailing exchange rate at their cash office, which is usually quite high. Today the rate was 117 😱.

Also remember cash payments are not permitted, payment is done thru MPesa or card.

Hey everyone, I'm back in Nairobi after my 3 days trip to Shanzu & Kilifi & it was absolutely amazing!

Our initial itinerary included Silver Palm Spa and Resort , Mnarani Hotel Kenya, Neptune Hotels - Beach Resort & Che Shale | Kenya . Unfortunately we couldn't make it to CheShale due to time constraints but we are planning for it in the near future.

Consider this your invitation to plan a visit to Kilifi.

Got to spend my last evening at Saltys kite village & Center - Bar & Grill. Literally dozed off on these bean bags for like a good 30mins before joining everybody else 😅.

Loved the Relaxed atmosphere, great care demonstrated by staff, well maintained place. A beautiful beach right in front of the village, very powdery sand, you can take a dip in the ocean to cool off with no concerns.

They have accommodation options as well, a beach bar & restaurant(reasonably priced in my opinion). Easily accessible, entrance is right on the Bofa road. If visiting you can easily use a tuktuk / bodaboda.

Perfectly enjoyable experience for both adults and kids

Mnarani Hotel Kenya definitely feels like a home away from home. I'm really glad I got the opportunity to visit. Here's a tour of my room, I'd definitely recommend staying in the junior suites. Totally loved the ample space, view of the creek from my balcony and easy access to the beach. Thoughts on the recent Kenya-Dubai flight ban. I can finally tick off being photographed at the Nanyuki, Equator crossing 😂😂. We found this local guy at the sign post who introduced to us the term Coriolis Effect.. I didn't geography in school so this was intriguing to me 🙈😂. So the Coriolis Effect is caused by the Earth's rotation. It's responsible for air being pulled counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere & clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. This is what he was demonstrating to us using the matchsticks and water. So if you move about 20kms away from the Equator line you get to see this effect in action. However the sticks don't move in any direction when directly on the equator, this is because the 2 forces neutralize each other at this point. Kenya is so magical but this right here is not magic🤣. This a naturally occurring phenomenon caused by bioluminescent algea. These are small creatures in the ocean that glow, just like fireflies at night. It is so beautiful to see the waves glowing as they move and hit the beach. This amazing experience can be found at our wonderful coast, in Kilifi. Tag someone you want to light up the beach with and come glow together. Its just magic.
