When humans began farming some 12,000 years ago, they altered the future of our species forever. But humans were late to the game. By the time our ancestors did it, ants had already been farming fungi in South American rainforests for 60 million years.

Can you believe this, only seven people, not even a quarter of your entire family.
The Yaaku people found in Kenya’s Rift valley total to only 4,000 people, only 7 of them, all above the age of 70 can speak the ethnic Yakunte language fluently.
Over the years their numbers have continued to dwindle but several efforts to save this dying group have been made. Yakunte speakers and a Dutch researcher wrote a Yakunte dictionary in 2004.
Advocates of the people established the Yaaku People Association in 2003, dedicated to preserving its culture.
Recently, according to a BBC report, a local school funded by the French Cultural Group is holding language classes twice a month for the association.
The Yaaku are believed to have migrated from Ethiopia to Kenya, where they settled in the Mukogodo forest, west of Mount Kenya, more than 100 years ago.
The Yaaku, whose name means “hunting people,” kept bees and began trading with the Maasai, the country’s largest pastoral people.
Eventually the Yaaku assimilated into Masai culture, adopting the Masai tongue over their own Cush*tic language. Yakunte is one of six languages in Kenya that have been classified as extinct by UNESCO.

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy , a Unesco World Heritage site in northern Kenya, is home to 12 percent of Kenya’s black rhinoceros population and the largest single population of Grévy’s zebras in the world. The best way to discover this is in a mobile tented camp, likely the most authentic form of safari, and a true immersion into the sights and sounds of the bush,
