We are finally taking our guests to Reteti elephant Sanctuary which takes in orphaned and abandoned elephant calves.

Elephant calves in Northern Kenya are orphaned or abandoned due to drought, man-made wells, human-wildlife conflict and natural mortality. The Sanctuary was established in response to demands from the local community.

The Kenya Wildlife Service and Samburu County Government have promoted the establishment of the new Sanctuary, recognising the wish of the local community to retain their elephants within Samburu County and seeing local communities taking a lead in rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing elephants within their home range.

Safari with Sam diaries continues. We followed these cheetahs until they made a kill. It's unfortunate that they started eating before the Impala cut its last breath. Note that, If the cheetah is successful, it may start eating its prey before it dies if other predators are nearby.  Cheetahsn eed to rest for about 30 minutes after a chase before eating.  During this recovery period, cheetahs are vulnerable to being robbed of their kill by other predators.  Cheetahs eat quickly and nervously to avoid being driven away by other predators.  Cheetahs usually back down and abandon their kill if challenged by lions or hyenas.  #magicalmemories #magicalkenya #wildlifephotography #whyilovekenya #bigcatsofafrica #bigcatsofafrica #cheetahconservation
