Here's a mind-blowing fact, besides the usual suspects in Laikipia area, there's an interesting resident that goes by the name Potap. Potap is a grizzly bear that weighs a whooping 800kgs and is the only bear in the whole of Africa. It is housed in a 58,000 acre conservancy.

Tell me you are a kenyan without telling me... you probably have had your photo taken at the Equator Marker in Nanyuki.

The Equator line passes through 13 countries, with Kenya being one of them.
Nanyuki sits on this imaginary line. It divides the earth into the Northern and Southern hemisphere and divides Kenya into almost 2 halves.

During your next visit to Nanyuki, ask the local vendors situated at this Equator marker to demonstrate the coriolis effect.

Nanyuki Series (Part 1)

For a long time, Nanyuki was known as a settler town frozen in time. Well, that has since changed but the town still maintains a part of it's charm. Settlement in this town dates as far back as 1907-1910.

The name Nanyuki was derived from a masaai's name, meaning River of Blood (Enkare Nanyukie). During the rainy seasons, the river water would turn into a red color due to soil erosion.

As per the 2019 population census, Nanyuki has a population of about 72k - with an equal split of 36k each between men and women.
