Mr. Patrick Ole Letura believes on initiatives of restoring peace, educational enrichment, empowerment of women and youth, sustainable development, provision of income-generating opportunities as well as revenue for bursaries to help pay schools fees to the most destitute children in the community.
He fully relies on the principle that conservation and tree planting exercises can be turned a vehicle to deliver development to communities as the custodians and first conservation champions and that beyond the literal wildlife protection and environmental conservation in Maasai Mara, there exists an inherent relationship between wildlife and the Maa people to live together and socialise hence a totalilty to back up and support these communities.
He is the CEO of Tano Bora Safaris and Ewangan Cultural Village a self help group aim to sustain the Maa culture through the lives and activities of the village. The community has a great interest in sustainable development, conservation and ecotourism in the Maasai region. Ewang'an Village provides an opportunity for the Maa community to showcase environmental sensitivity and healthy living within a traditional Maa cultural setting.
Ewangan Village strives to supports many local activities including football training, providing sports kit, Beadworks for women, helping children to participate in drama festivals and sports tournaments in Narok County, Nairobi and national competitions.
Notably, the success of Sekenani Primary School Medicinal Tree Nursery, aimed to educate children on the need of planting trees, raise funds for school fees and help the local community on the awareness of climate, restore badly degraded land and create a more resilient ecosystem.
Ewangan Maasai Village is the home to a wide range of client-based activities including guided wildlife tours in the Maasai Mara national reserve, medicinal plant and bush walks, cultural tours, jewellery making, honey production, cultural songs and dances, homestays and warriors' training.
On his philanthropic initiatives Letura has been sensitizing the community on the need to keep the environment clean through collection and proper disposing of polythene bags which have been a big threat to livestock. He has always promoted healthy ecosystems that support wildlife, livestock and human needs, improve the conditions of degraded areas and minimize invasive species, advocate for tree planting exercise and strictly deal with poachers and charcoal burning. He boasts of the support from the County Government of Narok having incorporated the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).
