Grounded in the rare beauty of its natural surrounds and well-preserved history, the camp’s striking, yet soothing interiors celebrate the elements, colours and textures of Kenya’s northern frontier.
Six spacious and beautifully appointed en-suite tents – each with uninterrupted views of Namunyak’s 850,000-acre wilderness and the majestic Mathews Range.
Each en-suite tent features solar-heated outdoor showers. Beautiful wooden butler boxes allow for the discreet delivery of early morning tea, coffee and cookies.
From detailed pebble finishes in spacious outdoor showers to focus walls echoing earthy tones, key features also include intricate beadwork and handcrafted wooden pieces.

“Honouring Namunyak Conservancy’s pristine wilderness as well as ancient Samburu culture, there’s a profound sense of place throughout.”
While retaining a classic tented camp’s magical nostalgia, the suites comprise contemporary havens with everything from extended bathroom and living spaces to large outdoor sofas – and a focus on complete comfort in which to spend unhurried downtime at ease.
Through incredible community conservation efforts over the last 30 years, Namunyak Community Conservancy has become a safe haven for wildlife – with elephants, giraffes, leopards and many other species returning in increasing numbers.

Today, our conservancy is home to the second-largest population of elephants in Kenya, more than 450 reticulated giraffe, the critically endangered Grévy zebra, and a host of other species – including the fabled gerenuk.

Entim is designed to give you the friendliest, most intimate, luxury safari camp experience and the best wildlife safari in the Masai Mara. Our prime location along the Mara River is unrivalled for seeing and photographing animals all year around, but particularly to observe the greatest wildlife show on earth; over a million wildebeest, zebra and antelopes migrating from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara (July-October)
You may not realise how rare it is to witness a migration river crossing, because the wildebeest can hesitate on the riverbank for days before taking the leap! But since Entim’s main wing overlooks the Mara River, while the private wing has an intimate bush setting, we see migration crossings from within camp. Entim guests are usually first on the scene, up close to all the action and other top animal sightings as and when they happen, without other tourist traffic around. We don't have rush out of the reserve before gates close at 6.30pm, or drive for hours to get to wildlife action, because Entim is in the middle of it all in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve!
Sit on your veranda and look over the Mara River at one of Africa’s greatest stretches of savanna, with the Rift Valley escarpment in the distance. Migrating wildebeest gather on these riverbanks and begin their migration into the Masai Mara. You will hear the sounds of grunting gnu, hippos, hyenas and lions from your bed at night. These wild animals are very closeby, so our red-robed Maasai warriors es**rt you to your room after dinner and drinks around the camp fire, where you’ll find a hot water bottle warming the bed.

The Entim experience is not your average hotel or lodge; it’s a feeling of being part of the landscape and having profound encounters with wild animals and Maasai people in their own land. It’s a sharing of passions and significant moments in the heart of one of the most famous wildlife reserves in the world.

Mara Bushtops is set within our own 6,500 acre private wildlife reserve – the Bushtops Wildlife Conservancy (Isaaten). By working to an agreed plan, everyone gains: us, you, flora and fauna, and local Masai herders alike. Access to the Conservancy is exclusive to the Masai and Bushtops guests, who benefit from private night and off-road game drives, walking safaris direct from the Camp, sundowners, sunrises on the Sekenani hill and visits to the nearby Kakiya cave
There private lands are a hotspot of biodiversity, teeming with buffalo, giraffes, elands, elephants, impalas, topis, wildebeest and zebra – all followed by a resident pride of lions and the occasional leopard. As a managed project, the Conservancy is helping to maintain a healthy ecosystem, preserving lands that might otherwise be lost to human encroachment. The Stuart family who run Bushtops have spent four generations seeking harmonious development opportunities in Kenya: Mara Bushtops and the Conservancy represents – we believe – a template for good stewardship, local partnership and a sustainable future.
Bushtops tents are simply extraordinary. They are spared no expense in creating them, making each a destination in its own right.
Opening on three sides, our 12 fabulously appointed tents are named after the wildlife which can be seen wandering past the Camp (or sometimes through it).
Bounded by more than a hundred square metres of private wooden decking, these tents are places to rest, enjoy a private meal, dream in a hot tub or simply relax under a canvas canopy – with views no hotel could hope to match.

Life is not always easy for the King. When a lion receives his mating call to duty, he is required to muster up all the stamina he has to satisfy his lioness. Given a lion pride may have several females, his work is cut out for him. When a lioness is in heat and looking to mate, she calls all the shots. Much as it is with other big cats, she decides when, where and how often mating will take place. His job is to…well, get the job done.
Female lions will start mating at about 4 years of age, while males begin closer to 5. Breeding is not seasonal with lions but the females in a pride will often be synchronized in estrus. Much like her feline cousins, a lioness coming into heat will advertise her readiness with sent marking, calling, rubbing on objects and rolling around on the ground. She will engage in a lot of display and she will also be defensive and scrappy.
Male courtship behaviour usually entails lots of head rubbing with the female, urine spraying, licking his ge****ls and patiently following her. When the lioness is ready and presents, the male will try to grip her neck before mounting. Once he mounts, copulation is generally completed with a few thrusts.
Gestation is 14–15 weeks and the typical litter is between 1–4 cubs. She will find a well-hidden, bushy area to have her cubs and will keep them sequestered from the pride for over a month, moving them often to keep them safe. When she eventually rejoins the pride, she will share the mothering duties, nursing her own cubs and those from other lionesses in her pride.

The Emakoko is a boutique lodge uniquely positioned on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. It is located a short 45 minute drive from either of Nairobi’s airports. The drive through the park itself, with its beautiful scenery and abundance of plains game is a superb way to start any East African safari.
