The Saruni Samburu most stunning eco-design lodge perched high above, overlooking Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, bordering with Samburu National Reserve. Book your stay from USD 1,000 per night and enjoy a luxurious safari experience.

Samburu destination facts

This vast expanse of remote pristine wilderness is inhabited by iconic wildlife and a tranquil ambiance blankets this wildlife haven. Located in the North of Laikipia, one of the less-visited regions in Kenya, this reserve promises an authentic wilderness experience.

The traditional homeland of the Samburu people, this arid terrain features northern Kenya’s biggest river, Ewaso Nyiro. Quenching the thirst of the abundant wildlife that roam this reserve, the Samburu people were lured to this area due to the reliability of the Ewaso Nyiro that provides water for their herds. The river courses through Samburu National Park, Shaba National Reserve and the Buffalo Springs National Reserve to the south.

Home to the rare northern special five species (Grevy zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx) this craggy, rugged region unfolds a romantic, awe-inspiring safari experience. Captivating Samburu elephant herds saunter over this game rich reserve and big cats prowl through thick acacia forest.

Heartbreaking news. We have just received the news that Logol has been killed by the Engoyanai males who are in control of the Offbeat pride.
The question now remains what will happen to Halftail and the Marsh pride?

The Dumbana Female a week or so ago setting out on her evening territorial patrol close to Lebombo Lodge where the core part of her territory lies.

She had spent most of the afternoon lounging on exposed boulders in the Gumba Drainage line, and got active minutes before the late winter sun dipped beneath the horizon.

🦒Happy World Giraffe Day!!!
Fun facts about these beauties:

1. Giraffe lack upper front teeth. Giraffes have the same amount of teeth as humans but they are all located on the bottom of its mouth.

2. Both male and female giraffes have horns from birth which fuse with the skull later to become formidable weapons, particularly in adult males. The horns actually lie flat on their heads and are not attached to the skull, to avoid injury during birth.

3. Giraffes can micro nap while standing by curling their necks around to rest on their hindquarters. They rarely lay down to sleep as this makes them vulnerable to predators.

4.During mating season, the male giraffe gets stuck right in there and, using their 50 cm long tongues, grab a taste of the female’s urine. Giraffes do this to determine whether or not they’re ovulating.

Sadly, the numbers of wild giraffes are sadly declining due to habitat loss and high levels of poaching. So as we celebrate giraffes today, we continue to hope that we will not see the day that giraffes become extinct like its long-necked Jurassic ancestors.
