Last month, we embarked on our first camel assisted walking safari through the beautiful scenery of Soysambu Conservancy and Elementaita 🐫
The camels carry all the camping equipment and food, and they can also carry you if you get tired! We honestly would recommend this experience to anyone who likes hiking and the simple camping lifestyle πŸ•
We will definitely be doing another one, and the more the merrier if you'd like to join us 😁

Last month we visited the Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site on a short camping trip.
A National Museum of Kenya, the site is located between Nairobi and Magadi and if often referred to as the β€œfactory of stone tools” because it's the only place in the world where so many artefacts have been located. It is also home to prehistoric bones from Elephants and Hippos, dating back 1.2 million years. Evidence has shown that this area used to be a large lake that acted as the lifeline of human species about 100,000 to 200,000 years ago, until earth movement caused the lake wall to separate and empty out.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of Ole Keene school and it's students!

We have recently visited the school several times to deliver porridge and follow up with the development progress and our sponsored students. We are happy to say the school is looking very much improved! The headmaster has now managed to secure a lot of funding and development from Better World Canada who are now constructing new dormitories for the students and teachers houses and it is looking like a great school.

With this in mind, as 2024 progresses our aim is to provide a regular supply of porridge for the kids and to concentrate on funding some activities for the students to give them further exposure and some wildlife and environmental conservation knowledge.

After discussing with the headmaster we are first planning to send all the grade 1, 2 and 3 students on a game drive into the Maasai Mara at the end of March when the term ends! This will be the first time most of these kids have been into the Maasai Mara reserve despite growing up right next to it. It will cost around 100,000ksh ($700 / Β£560) to hire three school buses and provide a lunch for the kids during the full day game drive. We are currently concentrating on raising funds for this.

Also in the plans for this year are some conservation lessons from a young Ole Keene resident who completed a BSc in conservation management in Nairobi university two years ago, and a multi day trip to Nairobi for some of the older grade 7 and 8 students who have never left the Mara to visit some of the main Nairobi attractions like the national museum, giraffe centre and Uhuru park.

We will keep you updated with progress!

Hells Gate National Park in Naivasha is the only national park in Kenya where you can walk and cycle inside due to the lack of active predators. Located on two tectonic plates it is also a hotspot for geothermal energy. You can spend a morning or afternoon cycling the 16km round trip to Ol Jorowa gorge and back amongst the Zebra, Giraffes, Impala and Rock Hyrax πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸΎπŸ˜Š
