🌅🐘 Golden Hour at Reteti 🐘🌅
As the sun dips behind the Mathews Range, the magic of the 6pm feeding begins. Baby elephants eagerly slurp down their evening bottles, their rhythmic gulps filling the air as the day fades into night. ✨🥛
Side by side with their dedicated Keepers, these little ones are not just fed—they are nurtured, comforted, and reminded they are safe. Every sip brings them one step closer to growing strong enough to return to the wild. 💚🌿

A bonding session on the banks of the Sand River. We could listen to their little grunts and soft squeaks, alongside gently flowing water, all morning long.

A 60 second glimpse into our season!
While we have packed up and gone home for a rest, time is ticking until the next season kicks off. We still have lots of space so please get in touch if you would like to ride with us.
As always a big thank you to all those who stood in to help while Simon was away:

Blind and young, this calf’s condition severely compromised his ability to survive in the wild, a stark reality compounded by the endangered status of the reticulated giraffe species.
The situation compelled our veterinary and security teams, in partnership with @mkwc_ke, to undertake a critical rescue. The operation was fraught with a major challenge; giraffes, deceptively docile, are animals of immense power, and this disoriented, blind individual exhibited heightened aggression. Additionally, immobilisation was not an option due to the risks it posed to the young giraffe, requiring the team to exercise utmost care to ensure the safety of both the animal and the rescue personnel.
Following the successful rescue, the giraffe was transported to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy (@mkwc_ke), where it now receives specialised care alongside Olaf, a fellow Lewa rescue.

This is not okay...this is not acceptable.
When is close enough, enough?
Where will it end?
Guides need to take responsibility and not have animals climb cars or even get so close, lodges need to take action when videos like this leaks.
What happens if something goes wrong? People die & animals get destroyed? Is this okay?
Makes for great entertainment and social media content...but at what cost?

Little steps lead to the journey of a lifetime.
Every morning, in tune with the rising sun, our orphans venture into the wilderness. Guided by their Keepers, they spend the day in a state of playful exploration, learning the skills they will need to live as wild elephants.
It’s a long journey from young orphan to independent elephant — some remain in our care for a decade or more, until they feel ready to reclaim their place in the wild — but these moments pave the way.

To date, we have successfully raised 320 orphaned elephants. Learn more about our pioneering Orphans’ Project:

Feeling truly blessed today at Sarara Camp in Samburu County, Kenya. I had an incredible opportunity to feed the beautiful reticulated giraffe named Twiga, who was lovingly raised here by the kind-hearted team at the camp.
In this region, it’s not uncommon for giraffe mothers to lose track of their young, leaving them wandering alone on the brink of starvation. Thankfully, the compassionate people at Sarara Camp rescued Twiga and several other giraffes, raising them alongside their horses so they have both companionship and the nourishment they need to reach adulthood. Now, Twiga roams wild and is currently 10 months pregnant with what might be her second baby, yet she always finds time to come back, say hi, and grab a snack.
Getting up close to these magnificent creatures was an unforgettable experience. I feel incredibly privileged to be in a place where genuine care and kindness toward animals flourish. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Sarara Camp for creating this remarkable sanctuary and for the incredible kindness you show to these animals. I truly love it.
