Someone once told me an African tale explaining why an ostrich has a long neck.

It's that way because the ostrich tried to pull its head out of the jaws of a crocodile that was trying to pull it into the water.

Because the ostrich was really strong, it pulled in the other direction, trying to get its head out of the crocodile's strong bite and its neck stretched longer and longer.

The crocodile became tired, so he finally let go.

"It is my practice to hire a local guide any time I’m on an expedition. For my June 2022 trip to Namibia with a small group of friends, I engaged Alexander Rostocil and his A++ Photo Safari Experience Team.

Alex made sure that everything would be perfect for our trip, from the time of year to plan the trip, to the lodging, to the wildlife, to the absolutely gorgeous landscape scenery.

While Alex appropriately did not promise sights he could not guarantee, he established the conditions where we saw everything we were hoping to, to include white and black rhino, desert elephants, and a great deal more wildlife than we had expected for Namibia.

In many ways, the number and variety of wildlife Alex put us in a position to view rivaled that of East Africa— which for me was totally unexpected.

1. Flamingos don’t breathe while eating.

2. The oldest 🦩 recorded lived up to 83 years old.

3. 🦩🦩🦩 spend 15% to 30% of a day grooming: their special gland produces oil that they spread over their feathers.

4. 🦩 chicks are born gray – their diet makes them pink later on.

5. The “knees” you see on a 🦩 is actually their ankle joints. Their actual knee joint is further up their body and hidden by its feathers.

🌍 Where to see flamingos in Africa?❓

Some 75% of the world’s lesser flamingos depend on 👉lake Natron (Tanzania)👈 to breed. The best time to visit is September through to December.

👉Lake Bogoria (Kenya)👈 is home to massive flocks of flamingos capable of reaching the millions at peak times of the year.
This is home at times to one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingos. This is an ideal location for spotting flamingos any time of the year due to the sheer number of them.

👉The Makgadikgadi salt pan complex (Botswana)👈 is one of Africa’s largest ephemeral wetlands and comprises the most important breeding site in southern Africa for both Greater and Lesser Flamingos which are in a massive decline in this region. The best time to visit is December to May.
