🦌The white-tailed deer is threatened by the destruction of its habitat and hunting. They are usually very shy and do not go away from any human presence. In some sanctuaries they have "accustomed" to our presence and you can live beautiful experiences. On our tour of Baños de Agua Santa, in the tropical rainforest, we were able to observe a pair of cocks-of-the-rock.

Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus), known as the "gallito de la roca" in Spanish, is a striking bird species found in the cloud forests of the Andes, including Ecuador. This bird is famous for its vibrant plumage, with males displaying bright orange or red feathers, depending on the region, and an iconic fan-shaped crest on their heads. Females, in contrast, have more subdued brownish coloring for better camouflage.

In Ecuador, the cock-of-the-rock inhabits the dense forests of the eastern and western slopes of the Andes and high Amazon often near rivers and waterfalls. These birds are known for their dramatic mating displays, where males gather in groups, known as leks, to perform acrobatic flights and vocalizations to attract females. Their loud, guttural calls echo through the forest, creating an unforgettable experience for birdwatchers.

This species plays an essential role in the ecosystem by dispersing seeds of various fruits, helping to maintain the biodiversity of its forest habitat. The cock-of-the-rock is also a symbol of the natural beauty and rich wildlife found in Ecuador's Andean regions.

Train is running again. In our tour we found amazing people and traces of awesome cultures.

The Natabuela people are one of the most identifiable indigenous peoples of the province of Imbabura, centered in the San Francisco de Natabuela parish. There are two versions about the origin of the Natabuela people and their ethnonym: on the one hand, that it could have come from some Cayapa human group from Esmeraldas, since in this Barbocoan language, nata would mean "ancestors" and buela, a collective unit. The other hypothesis maintains that the town would be the result of indigenous Caranqui-Inca mixing, and that "Natabuela" would mean "aboriginal of the forest" in Quechua.
